is very slow ship "movement" normal, and why did it keep saying "solo" mode?
I grabbed this during the $26.99 sale. I played it for about 20 mins. Long enough to undock and fly around. I found ship movement to be very very slow (esp. "turning") via mouse. Is this normal? It was extremely annoying.

Also, I tried a "multiplayer" game but every time I'd play it would say "solo". Is this game an MMO? Are there special requirements to do multiplayer? Thanks!

You have to control your throttle to get the best turn rates. Keep the throttle in the blue zone to turn the fastest ( basically). Yaw (side to side turning) is slow. Learn to roll into your turns and pull up or push down. You may want to rebind your controls to make them more comfortable for you.

OPEN is the multiplayer, SOLO is single-player. The only difference is that with the one, you might find some human players. Otherwise, they are the same.

You need to trvel outside the start system before you enter open play, it's to prevent new players getting griefed before they learn to fly.

YOU have choosed to play a SPACE-SIM. READ the MANUAL, WATCH official tutorials on YOUTUBE, read WIKI and JOIN the official FORUM. Thats everything you need to know right now.
Btw. Im a total noob and this is my advice to all new players (i never ever playd a space-sim before)

If you dont want to spent hours on just researching the mechanics of the game, dont bother. Go play some of todays AA titles.

I'll stick to Star Citizen. At least I can control my vessel and dog fight while having fun.

Please stop capitalizing. BTW, I've been playing PC games since the mid 80's. I know how to research, etc., and wanted to ask a simple question which you seem annoyed to answer.

I can't stand Star Citizens controls. They're kiddy.

Try raising your landing gear next time, works wonders.

Ships can't yaw - it's an ingame mechanic they designed on purpose because apparently space ships should feel like the are in the atmosphere...

Roll, pitch, n thrust a little.
The controls in this game are about as useful as a $2 BJ... (I spent the first half hour re-mapping my controls to work with WASD because i have no intention of dogfighting - it's stupid)

It's not what they should feel like, it's used to make the combat mechanics fun. Getting on your targets tail doesn't mean jack if they can whip 180 degrees in any direction to face you with equal velocity, things get boring fast. Slower yaw allows better pilots to outmaneuver their targets by forcing them to yaw to try and keep up.

Let's be honest, if it was a 100% sim we wouldn't even be close enough to see our targets with the naked eye, if you're going to make a space game, make it fun. ED's flight has a higher PvP skill ceiling than Star Citizen as a direct result of slow yaw.

Is joke, yes? You funny guy with joke of not yaw, yes.

Spacecraft do indeed have the ability to rotate around their center of mass in all three directions.

Have you even tried Sc? My guess is that you have not. E:D is by far one of the easyest and dumbed down flight machanics of any flight sim or space flight sims on the market. Try playing Star Citizen and wreaking face in the AC module like you can in E:D my money is you'll get stompped untill you give up and leave. Star Citizen by far has the more interesting flight model out of the two. E:D's flight model was pretty nice too up until the gamma when they dumbed it down to what you see today. E:D is space gaming easy mode.

No this is no way near any like any other MMO on the market as advertised. This is a multiplayer game at best. Did the Space MMO tag get you too. Yeah it got me and I absolutely hate Frontier for it, Frontier's marketing department is falsely advertiseing this game as MMO when it has absolutely no again no MMO features nor support nor did they plan on adding any to prevent this game from become like Eve Online, they said that during beta after the fact they sucker loads of us thinking this was going to be and MMO with MMO features.

Oh shut up and take your agenda to reddit where someone might care.

And yes, it does qualify as an MMO.

I kickstarted both Star Citizen and ED, and I'll say it again. SC's flight mechanics are kiddy and boring. If you want to claim there is no depth in ED by all means PM me your in-game name, I'd be happy to meet up with you and show you just how shallow the skill cap is by shaming you in a ship 10% of the value of anything you own.

Edit: Oh, in the beta version. I'm currently 27kly out from the bubble in 1.3

Just wanted to drop in and say for most people to consider a thing an MMO you would assume everyone would be 'forced' to actually play together. Instead, in this game, you can simply play 'solo' yet still be required to be connected to game servers. In E:D, to be honest, there isn't actually a -reason- to play in Open for anyone. You can even play with only your friends if you so desire.

Note that I say there isn't a -reason- to do so, but obviously plenty of people still do. That statement basically sums this whole game up in a nutshell if you think about it too.

Honestly I have no idea why Frontier didn't just make this a single player game with direct connect. That's a lot of wasted development time for a feature that's basically valueless in any measurable way. *shrug* The die hard fans will say they'll patch that into a full-game price expansion, and maybe if they ever do people will consider it a 'true' MMO.

EDIT:
In my opinion Open play only has downsides but that's just me. Docking wait times and griefs are instantly removed and it's not like there's any real group content anyway.

So number of players on screen quantifies an MMO?

:steammocking:

There's only about a dozen Korean MMOs on Steam alone that have a 32 player cap per instance in towns and as few as 4 per instance in dungeons. I suggest you learn what an MMO is.

A game where Massive Numbers of players interacting at once via Guild v Guilds or Alliances v Alliances like in some of the first games that was dubbed MMOs like EQ, Ultima Online, WoW, Eve. Anything less then that is a Pseudo MMO, multiplayer game like CoD and BF which holds more players interacting with each other at the same time on one field. So yeah all those self named MMOs like you discribed are nothing more then shams just like this game.

Oh, so because it doesn't fit "your" definition. Got it.

Better look into what an MMO is, and consider that the largest player group in ED has over 12,000 members.

by some peoples definition; dota is an MMO
I dont remember what I thought this game was going to be but,
I enjoyed trying to dock for $30
I saw one or two people in the hour I played.
Should try to play some more soon, just dont feel like playing space stuff right now.
