How do you find mission targets in a system?

I have taken a few missions where you either kill a certain ship or otherwise find a specific ship or cargo carrier, and I fly around the system they're supposed to be in for like an hour and I find a lot of other ships and scan them and get their names but not the mission target. Is there an easier way to scan and find your target?

While in Supercruise, be sure to investigate Unidentified Signal Sources[i.imgur.com], sometimes mission targets will spawn inside those.

Make sure you have a frame shift interdictor also incase you spot them while in super cruise
