Rotating "Garage" Platforms
So, I love this game, I really do. Haven't stopped since I started, but I must ask this question.

Who in their right mind, decided to rotate these platforms when landing in a base and disembarking? Why does it matter how we land the ship in the first place, if the platform on which we land can rotate?

Also, when I step out of my ship and head to the concourse of any station. I need to walk entire football fields to get to the elevators, why?

Originally this was fine and dandy, seeing my ship's size and all, but doing this for the 100th time is becoming a lot. Why doesn't the platform conveniently rotate so that I am as close as possible to the concourse when I exit the ship? Ships that have the exits/entrances on the side aren't affected by this, but those ships like the Cutter..... truly suffer.

If these platforms rotate, just shift my ship to the garage without rotating it and when I get back in and want to launch myself, then rotate it the right way.

Am I the only one who gets annoyed by that marathon every single time I disembark from the Cutter?

Apparently, going through the inside of the ship to go outside was "too repetitive". But going through the same hangar underneath the ship isn't.
Look, it's Frontier logic. It's not meant to be logical.

A good explanation would be that ships must land in accordance to protocols, so they can be safely refueled, rearmed, repaired and all that jazz.
Would be silly if all ships just landed on platforms like trash in a bin.

The platform is kinda huge?
You walk the length of a parking lot when you park at a mall or shopping centre.

I agree it can get tiresome. Fast-travel would be convenient, esp. when doing a lot of concourse work.

the reason you have to be the right way round for the platform is that one end of most platforms contains a raised blast-shield to protect nearby objects from your thrusters and the other contains the guy directing you how to land, who is allergic to high-temperature thrust cones

the reason it rotates you, on the other hand, is because the construction crews who built the tunnels under the landing pads were holding the blueprints the wrong way up.

Alright fellas.

I paid attention to it even more and the blast shield reasoning makes sense.

The pads also rotate when you get off them, so I guess there's a reason why they must be oriented the way they are.

Even so, I wish they'd just place the elevators at least at the side of the lot, so that you don't have to spent so much time walking back and forth.

Probably it's only so tiresome for me, because for a few days now I'm just doing all sort of missions and picking them up from the concourse is a pain. They could have at least added the option to pick planetary missions from the ship's cockpit, for those of us who play Odyssey.

If they didn't rotate you'd lift off and fly into the back of an orbiter, or the buildings on a small platform station, instead of facing empty space or the mailslot.

I know, and that makes sense, but this rotation should take place upon departure, not as soon as you disembark.

Since it's upon landing, it's not necessary. The platform should just take us down and that's it. This would align the front of the ship with the elevators decreasing the amount of time it takes to get to it.

Upon leaving, the ship could then rotate to align you with the exit.

There is a time-saving element to it: land, click descend, refuel-rearm-repair(+adv maint)
-then disembark or trade cargo/etc.

Buddy, that alone wouldn't be an issue, however I need to disembark to pick up new missions that are planetary, since the ones I get from my ship are all in space stuff. So I need to do multiple instances of entering the concourse :D

I just fly a DBX. Never had this problem, the concourse elevators are right there when I debark.

Aren't you a lucky pickle. :lunar2019grinningpig:

If you have the Cutter, try it out and imagine doing that several times, it's a real pain.

Poor you. Owning a Cutter is a living nightmare isn't it? :2017stickytube:

I use it for trades, I buy a bunch of stuff from one station, find out where I can sell it for a profit, then I accept missions in that location too. I sell the products, do the missions and I repeat.

It's fun, except for the year long walking.

Why don't you take ground missions from terminals at settlements? The landing pads are as still as corpses.

Some ships load in the front, others load in the back, so changing the rotation to happen on take-off would just be irritating for a different group of ships.

As for doing this with large ships, I specifically avoid using a large for Odyssey. I think large ships are mostly a hindrance in Odyssey content.

Different space ports have different elevator locations. If the port you are using has the back elevators you can go somewhere else.

Also why are you doing Oddyssey content with a Cutter? They are hellatious to park.
