1) go to a station with a war in the system, sign up for a HIGH ground CZ and go there with the flight suit and pistol. Just try to hit enemies once with your pistol, then run and hide. You should make 8-10 million per CZ (10-12 mins)
2A) Buy and A-rate a DBX, go exploring (if that's your thing) and scan exobio (if that's your thing). Even picking up 100m from scanning a few plants will set you on your way.
2B) Buy and A-rate a Krait Mk II with collector limpets, no engineering needed, stack massacres intelligently out of Ngalinn. Go to the Low RES in the rings of Mainani 5 to kill off the Brothers of Mainani pirates. Scoop all materials they drop, but ignore all goods.
2C) Buy and outfit a T9, use Inara to find Mining Expansion Missions. You'll need more seed money for this one, but you can generally buy the goods for 15m and the missions are worth 35-50. Wait for Lavigny's Legion or Xiancheim Empire League to go into Expansion, then get the missions at Croatigae (Fraknoi Dock) and buy the goods in the same system from Ambartsumiam or Carrington Ports. By not jumping to another system, you avoid the incoming enemies and only have to deal with regular pirates.
2D) Before the war ended, I took three of my accounts to ground port CZ and stacked Hydra kill missions, completing them with my regular AX combat friends.
2B and 2C are in Imperial space so you will rocket through the ranks with those.
What's HGE? thanks for the reply, what's the benefits of having a carrier?
Thanks for the detailed reply. Some of this I don't understand but will look into. What are massacres? I haven't even got into combat yet. I've literally been trading, doing exobiology and farming materials.
Its nice they let you out of the straight-jacket so often to play the game!
Note for anyone pledged for PP to anyone but Arissa Lavigny-Duval - this is a fortified system so enemy PP NPCs might take a dim view of you in your lumbering Type 9. Either make sure the Type 9 is sufficiently shielded so you can dock even while being harassed or fly something faster, even if with less cargo space. The Cutter is ideal and can't be mass locked either (except by another Cutter).
Carriers are essentially mobile starports - they allow you to repair/rearm, store ships and modules (plus commodities if you're the owner) and can be moved to different systems. Useful for those who like to travel with a huge luggage, for trading purposes, or just have a mobile base placed close to where you're doing stuff. I don't personally have one but other people in the squadron I'm in do - they've been helpful when it comes to space conflict zones.
I use Jameson crash site for encoded.
Davs hope for manufactured.
And there is a crashed ship with dropped cargo racks that I use for raw materials.
I'm understanding you can use the HGE to get manufactures mats and the brain tree method for raw mats.
I haven't farmed in months now. With the expanded drops and boosts to mission rewards for materials, whenever i want to engineer i have more than enough spare stuff that i just go and trade at a materials/data trader for what i need.
Now add in PowerPlay care packages, and i'm getting a ton of both horizons and odyssey stuff, so much that i can't actually fully claim most care packages because i'm at my limit.
then rare goods
After rank 100, you get 10 of each item in care packages instead of 5. (So I've been told)
It's nice I rarely spend money on any new releases because I'm too busy with ED ;-)
HGEs will get you all the manufactured materials you will ever need if you are not doing power play
https://edgalaxy.net/hge
Minerals is easy Brain trees and a conda with 2 flak launchers and 2 size 5 limpet controllers should do the job

now encoded thats the pain i use famine systems and the distribution centers to get most and jamisons cobra for the rest.
with all of these you will need to hit up the materials traders to trade down to get the lower ones.
