New player: Elite dangerous tutorial mining incorrect cockpit mode press m to switch

New player: Elite dangerous tutorial mining incorrect cockpit mode press m to switch.
If trying it on keyboard and mouse m dose noting. Its bound correct. I never changed the controls in the game. When i change control input to Xbox controller holding y brings up the option to select cockpit but nothing happens. I cant mine the asteroid. I already turned of the shield generator as instructed. What am i missing.

Hmm.. are your weapons and modules set to fire groups (right panel in ship)?

Yep it sounds like you have combat items and analysis items on the same firegroup and button.

In the fire group options there is nothing there. This is just the basic mining tutorial. Cant mine rock as i cant change cockpit view. I tried restarting the mission lots of times. I notice during the tutorials it sometimes misses steps and i had to google but this just keeps saying change cockpit view.

Ok i am just using the default ship the tutorial gives you. Also the default controls. What do i need to do?

You may need to set up the fire groups in the right menu. Make sure all the tools are on button 1 or 2, with each pair in a separate column.
