Do Beam Lasers suck?
Mk III Viper.
I have quite a few internal upgrades. (saved weapons for last)

Now, I HAD 2x Gimballed Multi Cannons & 2x Gimballed Pulse Lasers.
(Class 1 & 2 of each)

I swapped for 3x Gimballed Beam Lasers (Class 1, 1, 2) & a Class 2 Cannon (Fixed)

I just feel like my overall dmg output dropped a lot. And the recharge time on lasers is killing me. Even with upgraded internals.

--Side note 1---
Has anyone ever done full Rails/Rockets? Does it work?

---Side note 2---
Does fighting/killing/pirating in 'Anarchy' systems yield ANY negative effects/wanted status on your record?

Thanks!

Until you learn to aim, probably best to stick with Gimballed Pulse Lasers. Beam lasers drain the ships weapon charge way to fast in smaller ships (larger ships its not so bad).

Until you feel confident to aim you can then switch to Fixed weapons (where you aim).

DONT use turrets, I tried this approach and they are such steaming piles of @#% for damage its just going to get you killed more than likely, or your hull damaged.

Beam lasers are great, but you need to learn how to effectively manage your power and heat levels

If you're going with beams, you need kinetic weapons as well so you can still fire while your lasers recharge.

On your side note 2, doing ANYTHING in a Lawless or Anarchy System will not grant any negative effects as you are in a sector of space with no government.

On my Viper I had 2 fixed beams at the front, and 2 gimballed multis at the side.

When the hardpoints are in the nose like the viper it is really easy to "aim" your fixed laser for max damage, when ships try and "joust" you and they fly straight at you, you can just dismantle their shields in seconds!

Gimballed good for the side turrets because they aim at a different place otherwise.

Remember some ships have really bad hardpoint placement which you'll never want fixed stuff for.

With your specific setup I think your 3x beam is probably 1 too many.

And Beam weapons have the highest DPS of all weapons against shields... including recharge times

Beam lasers are fine. Like, really fine. The biggest problem with them however is how they heat up your ship. I always make a point of fitting beam lasers if I'm getting them on the small hardpoints, otherwise I go burst or pulse.

lasers are for shields

When you take down the shields, select the target's power plant. Get <500m to the target, aim and shoot ;) this will take down his power plant quite easy and then it's just a sitting duck.

So, is the consensus "Fixed>Gimballed"?

If you can pull it off, go for fixed.
