Star Citizen takes 100 Giga Byte... get prepared!
Any yea be redy coz 20 to 40 gb will be the norm at end 2017 a long with GTX 980s
Elite file size will grow about 2gb to 5 GB every year as new seasons are added
I'd delete the files I don't use, but I don't wanna risk having Steam or EDLaunch DL them again. I'm in France too, and my DL speed rarely stays over 400kB/s. And before someone tells me to change ISP: there is no better alternative if I want a reasonable ping and price.
While 14GB for a game isn't really enough to complain about in an age where 1TB of 7200rpm HDD cost 50-60€, the inefficient use of space and bandwith however is.
Si jamais t'y joue et tu cherche des francophones pour peupler ton univers ED, ajoute moi.
Wish they pushed out the 8-bit client too along with the 32-bit and 64 bit one.
Would be nice if we had a choice, then I could opt out of the legacy 32-bit compatibility one for XP users.
What files/folders do i have to delete if i wanna use less disk space? Thx.
By the way, some of you in responses say that 14 Gb is nothing. I disagree.
I have 1 Tb hard disk + 1 SSD of 160 Gb with both linux and windows system.
I keep most of the place for the games on windows part.
However, i have to choose games i install now because too many of them take too much space.
So 14 Gb isn't nothing. Like 30 Gb for Payday 2 or Dirt Rally etc...
So if a game can take less space i want less space! More if 14 Gb is useless!!!
Redshift compresison win.
If 14 GiB makes you cry... I did some (napkin) math.

So you have N copies x 2 (for each bit size) thats 2N plus M patches, thatss 2(N+NM) downloads you will have to do, assuming N = 10 (for 10 years if you stick it out) and M is say, well let's say 3 shall we. so 2(10+10 x 3) giving 2 times 40 so you will have 80 times the fun (but we know it will be more) :) And assuming 8.1 GiB per Expansion and 21 MiB per patch (given their first attempt). So that N = 10 x 8.1 GiB and M = 21 Mib. Do the math :)
That means 2 ( 81 GiB + 210 MiB) = 2 x 87.1932887 GiB giving 174.386577 GiB over 10 years, that is what you will be downloading (it also maybe MORE - most likely MORE) :)
Remember, 1 NEW copy per expansion (and deleting the old one - SSD TRIM carnage).

Enjoy.
If it were actually done to scale and not procedurally generated then sure. 14gbs is nothing space wise, bandwidth size however.... In Canada we have usage based billing, 14gbs for one download is expensive if your plan only includes 25-50 a month.
1) Public library (you already paid in all your taxes ))
2) Cafe WiFi.
2) Google Fi ( https://fi.google.com/about/ )
Now then now then.. What are you up too ...
Nothing Sir, Just downloading the Galaxy!
Oh ok then, carry on.
Yeah it's getting harder and harder for digital distribution to be viable with bandwidth caps. One of the problems of disc media falling out of production so quickly.
It would be nice if there were partial install options where applicable for people in such situations but as it's more work to set up distribution that way it's rather unlikely.
There is
https://www.frontierstore.net/games/elite-dangerous-boxed-pegi.html
or
Ask your friend to copy their steamapp game folder for Elite.. then import it in.
Probably some DRM on Steam or Frontiers part would prevent that. Many programs assign IDs or Signatures tied to either the computer or account to prevent pirates from doing just that.
Either way I'm good for bandwidth, I have a 165gb plan which for me is plenty
Then you get an error, simply run the integrity check and it replaces the bad files.
Copy the generic BIG overlay / texture / data files. Then download the auxiliary files.
That way it minimises the download.
Try setting up a local Squid cache server. It will also minimise your downloads if you have a home network. Get a NAS, install games to the NAS, share Steam games using the Family sharing. In fact you can probably run the cache on the NAS appliance / server too.
165GiB is nothing, that's a few Linux distros and Steam games lol.
