How can I plan the fastest route somewhere automatically?

Can I have the map do it automatically for me or would I have to do it manually? Right now I searched the station I need to go, clicked on plan route but then it gave me like 5 systems to stop at before heading out to my target however I noticed if I just click on select on my destination, I only drop out of hypercruise once instead of 5 times and I would drop out of hypercruise in the system that has the station I need to go.

Just click the fastest route checkbox and it does it for you. I usually use that when in inhabitaed space. If I am exploring I uncheck it as I think it targests more scoopable stars when fastest and economical routes are unchecked.

The navigation tab on the galactic map has two check-buttons: "fastest" and "most economical". "Fastest" gets you there in the fewest jumps possible. "Economical" gets you there using the least amount of fuel. It works because fuel usage is logarithmic, not linear: taking two 5 LY jumps uses far less fuel than one 10 LY jump.
