How do I register my Steam purchase with Frontier?

When you first start the game from Steam, the Launcher will give you options to either Log In to Elite Dangerous or Register for a new Frontier account. If you do not already own a Frontier account you must select Register, as an active Frontier account is required to play Elite Dangerous. https://www.frontierstore.net/customer/account/login/

Please make sure you fill out your account fully, adding a billing address. Then enter your Steam CD key on the Product Access Key section your account page. This will associate your Steam purchase with us, and you can then access the game as normal.

Should you have any problems getting this to work, please contact Frontier Support with the Steam CD key you were allocated. https://support.frontier.co.uk/kb/

I can't believe this. Bought the game on Steam like normal. Now, in order to play, i have to provide my contact data to Frontier? No other game i have requires this. Frontier, why can't you just accept the CD key provided by Steam? WIsh i had known this before i bought it.

I'm not sure, but I think you need to provide your contact data only if you want to link your accounts. This step can be skipped if you are going to download a game through Steam, for that, you just need to create a Frontier account with your name (I used a fake one). And guys, please stop complaining about your "personal data", Frontier wants your billing information for the same reason you provide it to Valve - so you'll be able to buy stuff there. Same here, you need to provide your billing info ONLY if you want to buy some stuff (such as skins or ships) on their store (frontierstore), it means that Frontier - not only a game dev studio, but a freaking store also, that's why they need your billing information. I'm pretty sure that you don't need to fill a billing information just to run a game bought through Steam.

Hey 5ifty7even, can you please pin posts on Horizons discussion page, I'm confused about the installation as I am an exisitng ED user. Someone on reddit told that we shouldn't launch ED from steam if we have purchased horizons from steam, it would be very helpful to have the right guide, I'm assuming you are moderator for ED horizons too :)
P.S: Sorry to post here, I couldnt find any in Horizons discussions.

through Steam wallet,but I haven't received it.
Followed instruction to try to get my key of Horizons,but doesn't work.

Edit:Opened a ticket and the issue of the Key solved.
Support Wing added the items to my account,

I solve my problem. Today https://www.frontierstore.net/ is working.
You have to log in, fill your shipping information and at the bottom of left hand menu there is "Product Access Key". Copy your cd-key from Steam there and validate. After that log in and copy verification code and it sould work now.

My hubby was having the exact same problem so I was looking for help her, the above worked. He did not have billing address and phone number listed so told him to add it. The little product access key on the left before this was grayed out. After he put in all his information the product access key did highlight, he was able to put it in and he is now playing the game. The response above does work.

I done just this, and it says my key has been used before. I attempted the copy the code from the e-mail several times before trying this

I shouldn't have to take so many steps before playing a game through Steam, let alone provide billing/personal information to a company I never plan on paying directly. I have requested a refund through Steam.

Mh, so last year i used the extra steam downloadkey from a friend, before they put up the warnings, thinking maybe we could play together then. Ofc that didnt work. So now for christmas, i deleted E:D from my account, not just my library, so another friend could gift it to me properly. Now while trying to delete it, it showed me:
You own this product as part of multiple packages.

Which package do you want to remove from your account?
Elite: Dangerous Thirdparty Retail
Elite: Dangerous

I could only remove E:D, which i did so i could receive the gift, whenever i tried to delete the thirdpary retail package it gave out a nondescript error.

But now steam didnt give me a proper new key with the steamgift and kept the old dl key, which cant be used to access E:D and create a CMDR....

one thing i don't get about this game is. why the hell do you need to activate the game off frontier and not just immediately access it on steam. in other words there should be no need to get a frontier account. either there should just be a "use steam id" or both the steam id and the frontier account as two SEPARATE options

Not everyone provides their billing information to Valve even. There are gift cards and more ways. And can you please stop complaining about other peoples opinions on privacy in such a completely uncalled for dismissive way ? I get that it can get annoying when people always whine about their personal data, its just that it gets annoying to me too when i see people getting annoyed at other people beeing concerned about their privacy, which is one of their basic human rights - commercial reasons dont trump those, period.
That aside, if you dont really need the billing information to run the game, its fine by me. If they really wanted to sell some additional stuff via my account with them to me they better provide anonymous forms of payment, or they wont get my money. If it turns out a game wont be playable without this information i will request a refund.
