If its a solid dot your flying towards the target,if its hollow the target is behind you, turn your ship until the solid dot is in the center of the crosshairs and off you go :)
Thanks!

All the crucial information, such as interface interaction is left to the user to figure out all by himself through trial and error.
The travel mission took me nearly 30 minutes to complete. I undocked, warped to the destination and after that the tutorial didn't tell me what to do. That was it, no information whatsoever.
I managed to figure out I had to access the panel to the left and use the system map to find the location I needed to cruise towards.
A friend informed me about the compass, the little spherical shaped thing to the left of the radar. It helps you locate currently targeted objects - if it's hollow - it means it's behind you. If it's solid, it's somewhere in front of you. Knowing this helped tremendously in locating the targets I needed to warp to.
As for missions, I'm absolutely clueless what to do. I took a mission where I had to destroy 4 scout ships, seemed easy enough. I warped to the system and spent another 30 minutes trying to figure out where to go. There were a lot of unexplored areas and unidentified signals - neither of which I had any idea what they did.
Roughly an hour later of randomly going to random places, I managed to find a spot that had a few ships which had the "Mission Target" under their names - in black text, for whatever reason. So I eventually managed to sort it out.
Under no circumstance are these tutorials acceptable. They taught me absolutely nothing and even after completing all of them, I was left pulling my hair trying to figure out what the hell to do.
also, theres many groups who can share information on some very profitable areas
For sure, if it weren't for my friend I'd probably have uninstalled the game by now :P I get easily frustrated when games don't have decent tutorials.
That said, I'm no stranger to steep learning curves. But crucial stuff such as interface interaction, mission management(finding targets etc) definitely needs tutorials. Far more so than the current ones.
Despite the amount of hair I've lost in 3 hours, I've had some fun. I just wish it was easier/more straightforward in finding mission targets - but given time I'm sure I'll learn.
Probably because Steam doesn't really make it obvious that some games have manuals. I just found it after you made that reply, it's a little irrelevant link on the store page - easy to miss.
That said, I'll take a look. Even then, this is 2015, they should have crucial information like this readily available directly in the game. It doesn't have to be a fancy tutorial, some simple encyclopedia-like entries would do.

Elite: Dangerous Game Manual (PDF)[hosting.zaonce.net]
Page 10 through 13 are exactly what I wanted. A nice picture highlighting the interface components along with in-depth information on what each and everyone does.
I see absolutely no reason why this isn't available in the game.
And ofc ty for this answer really helped a lot m8
