Is targeting subsystems worth it?
As far as I understand it, you do less damage if you target subsystems, but you do that damage to that subsystem.
Is it worth it? Always?

ah, and what subsystem is the best to target? Power, so they don't jump away?

In anything over a Viper I target the power plant because it takes out the ship much faster than just targeting the hull. With smaller craft like sidewinders and eagles my vulture pretty much melts them faster than its really worth even bringing up the subsystems menu

Yeah, on smaller ships it makes little difference I find, but from a Cobra upwards, it can shorten the fight.

Power plant is best, but I have targetted Life support too, although recently that seems to have less of an effect than before, maybe they updated it to balance?

If you want them to stop moving, target drives, but like I say, on smaller ships, you destroy them completely before you get a chance to take the component damage down to 0%.

Be aware that, once 1.4 goes mainstream, targetting the powerplant is no longer a guaranteed insta-kill. So don't get used to doing it.

Yes, they indeed don't jump away anymore. Try to target the power planet on a anaconda, you will be surprised how fast that works. :)

I have a very strong feeling that because of the power supply 'fix', 1.4 is going to kill this game for me completely.

You can just use "Y" to iterate through the subsystem.

I usually target the life support on small ships, because I find it amusing.

I suppose that depends what your plan is.. If you are just in for the kill, (Bounty) then go for the power supply, if you want to toy a little with your food first take out the drives. You can also shoot the cargohatch, making them drop whatever they carry... thats as far as ive come, but please, do tell if you guys do it differently...

Target the power plant as it will start to reduce the effectiveness of their weapons and shields and fsd. Stops them from attacking you and from running when you have the edge

I can't see any reason to target subs because I've never actually blown one up. The target ship always gets destroyed long before the system hits 75%.

Thanks for the necroing, I reliably get the power plant down on any conda / python that comes across my vulture, usually with 30% hull still to be blown...
So yeah, know your weapons and ships.

yeah` i target power plant,, done in half the time,, instant desruction with about 30/40% hull`` their hull``

Targeting subsystems give you a few benefits.

1. You are attacking a specific system, usually PowerPlant and depending on your skills...you can disable a ship well before it would normall be destroyed by 0% hull.

2. It gives you a red target box to aim for. This helps with smaller ships and ships that are close to 3km out from you.

3. With that red box, you'll notice that fixed weapons have have a slight autoaim when you aim close to it.

target a conda's hull and drop him to 0 before he blow, target his power plant, and he blow at 60%+ hull enought said
