That said the design favours grouping, specially since by seeing others it increases the value of cosmetics creating more interest on them and higher revenue for the developer.
As such a group - even if small - will progress faster and easier.
ED can be played quietly without pressure and that’s the way i prefer play it too.
Take for example base assaults in Horizons.
Solo you can go up against low security small settlements no problem. Going up against large high security settlements is crazy solo.
But you can land your ship near a base, drive closer with the srv, go in with the combat suit and eliminate threats, then swap suits in the SRV (Maverick) and go back to cut locks and door panels and loot everything.
So, solo play is perfectly fine.
However, teaming up is also fun, and you definitely don't have to use voice.
Also, when you start Odyssey in the basic suit, you can do safe transportation missions if you need to raise cash to buy the other suits and weapons. In the Alpha the suits were 150k, basic weapons 50-75 and the better weapons about 150.
They might be a lot higher in the release version, or they might use an entirely different currency which is earned on ground missions. Who knows?
You can easily Solo a base if you know what your doing.
