How to Honk in the HUD

I am new to the game and am struggling to find out basic information. The problem is that although there are a huge number of articles and YouTube videos out there they mostly refer to previous versions of the game and are no longer correct.

I am still enjoying the game however but could use some help with basic functions. I am sticking to the default keyboard at present until I have learned more about the game.

I have managed to find out how to use the Discovery scanner in FSS mode (Supercruise, stop, M, apostrophe, hold down mouse 3) but I understand it is possible to use it directly from the HUD. However mouse 3 doesn't work there because it is bound to headlook. So - how do I honk in the HUD?

You need to have the discovery scanner assigned to a fire group, then pick a trigger for it.

Fire group assignments is a tab on right-side cockpit display. Assign DSS a "1" or a "2" in some column. The column determines the fire group. When in normal flight looking at the HUD, press 'N' to cycle through fire groups. The names of things bound to the group should show. By default, using mouse, left-mouse-button corresponds to "1" and right to "2". Might need to be in analysis HUD mode, not sure... but 'M' switches modes. Analysis mode is a blue HUD, not orange.
