But at the same time I'm huge fan of procedurally generated sandboxes. Because any unexpected situations or a find happens because I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time, and not because someone wanted to give me this "experience".
I like how you categorized each game for different "followers" as if they could be differentiated.
You can't call yourself a true space fan when you only limit yourself to "one" game along with your previous asine comments (also linking a URL to a silly internet rumour which has nothing to do with the topic). Just like how you categorized each game for different people.

Indeed, I wish the galaxy map was more intuitive, there were a lot of star systems in ED that was breathtaking; sadly I forgot the name of the sytems.
Oh, that's awful :/ Not only that but games such as Fallout too ? You should put aside the "exploration" side for now and try playing that game for the story -- you not be disappointed.
Here's a silly joke for you, regarding the stars in our galaxy, there are different galaxies, sure no man put them there but did you know a higher power created it and placed it there? :D
This. We need a bookmark feature, and more advanced features. Like being able to add route plot points. When visiting a cluster of stars that I wish to visit, I'd like to set multiple systems in queue, and visit them all, but I'm forced to do it one by one... and often missing out on some as I move away and have a little radius I see around me.
Would be nice to have a view where we could see all that we have explored, and this should be visible with a much larger radius so its useable.
It's not as much the galaxy map itself... I don't think that having a spiffy 3d map with spiffy effects would make it that much better... initially yeah, but it doesn't seems to be very snappy.. and on the long run, I don't think I would like it.
Something that could be took from it tho is the view of the system in fake 3d. Like with the sun in the center, and the planets around it, with the orbit shown... well I think its real 3d with SC, but a fake 3d that we cant spin in ED would be nice... but again... with systems with remote suns at 500k Ls or more, it would be hard to achieve I think.
But please, bookmarks are highly needed and never understood why they weren't here in the first place... can't be that hard to implement?!
edit: You would think they would come with Horizons... bookmarking systems with nice world you want to explore is a must...
I was taking screenshots of the interesting systems... but as you can't search text in an image... its next to useless after a while.
@Jubei i didn't mean to hurt your feelings.
ED is just one of three you mentioned.
But, honestly, i bought SC and ED at the same time in early Feb 2015. I've played SC no more than 3hours. Maybe it was just first impression.
The map in OP is good and functional, no doubt. But it's like "Hello! Here is a basin in your newly purchased house which you'll got...we don't know when! News at CitizenCon!"
That's why i don't buy "early access" games anymore. :`(
SC discussions every month! All latest news here!
That's funny. Cause I used to like games like these a couple of years ago. I played all the classic rpgs like baldur gates, icewind dale, nwn, etc, also fallout, planescape.. and I really liked fallout 3 back when I played it.
However, that was years ago. Since then Minecraft came out, played it a lot, and my view on gaming changed forever. I rediscovered what games used to be. No hand holding tutorials, no map pointers, etc.. and freedom... something original, not yet another nfs, cod, bf, and what not they reiterate year after year.
Since then I played lots of sandbox games, like Project Zomboid, 7D2D, Space Engineers, Terraria, and a few others. I played skyrim back when it came out and liked its graphics.. finished it.. but meh... I never replayed.. and I replayed oblivion a bit. I replayed morrowind too, and the one I mostly replayed in the serie is daggerfall. See what I mean. Games aren't becoming better for the most part.
Elite stayed thru to its root while deserving AAA graphics, and a totally immersive experience.
So back to what I was saying. Sometime earlier this year, fallout new vegas came on a juicy sale and I picked it up. I played it maybe 15-30 mins... and I was like... 7d2d is so much better than this. And just like Jubei I realized how nice procedural games really were...
I wanted to like Divinity, cause I would have liked it 4-5 years ago or more... but not anymore.. it looks very good for this sort of rpg, and like much of it, but I dunno, can't get into it. And I tried a few times since I bought it, and again lately.
I was going by the Elite Dangerous FAQ in the Elite WIkia, where it states that ED has 100 billion star systems and around 400 billion stars. But if it's written on the store page that there are in fact 400 billion star systems then this is a little strange for my taste. This would mean there are probably 2 trillion or more stars in the ED milky way which seems a bit too much. While we don't really know how many stars are in the milky way, most people assume it's between 200 billion and 1 trillion stars. But 400 billion star systems seems way to much if you ask me. Considering this would lead up to at probably 4 or 5 times as much stars.
Star System could be lone star, or star with planets, or double star, or white dwarf and black hole.
Lone Black Hole is a star system too.
Yeah I know they are not using the term "star system" in a scientific way. A star system usually contains more than 1 star in reality, otherwise it would only be a lone star or a planetary system if it has planets. I know they are also including single stars and planetary systems around a single star. But 400 billion visitable stars on the galaxy map would still lead to around 2 trillion actual stars which would seem a bit too much for the milky way.
Indeed, I actually thought Elite players showed a common interest in space games -- it seems not. Whether it's x3, kerbel space program, (insert any good space games here) -- people would complain. Sad really.
@Plecair
I see what you mean, if you truly love immersion games I suggest a series called S.T.A.L.K.E.R, it's literally one of the best FPS-RPGS i've played. There are a lot of mods out for it too, for the latest (came out in 2010) called Call of Pripyat, it has a mod called Misery. It really lives up to the mod's name.
