E.g. if you want Datamined Wake Exceptions, find a mission you can do which offers (usually) 20 of them. That's enough for 4 fully g5 engineered FSDs.
You can get raws, encoded and manufactured from missions.
If you want to farm ...
HGEs now have 80-100 (x 3) manufactured materials at each, so there are 4-5 categories you can fill to 100% by visiting one HGE for each.
Jameson now has 8 datapoints instead of 4, and they give you 30+ encoded each instead of 4.
Crashed Anacondas have 15 canister racks with tons of raws each.
Just fill up the first two, visit Material Trader on Ray Gateway station at Diaguandri system to trade them ALL for other mats. Head back to Jameson's Site for another farming. Use ship with a better jump range during this back and forth process.
To my knowledge, best methods are:
Players I've seen using the crystalline forests are relog heavy, over and over.
Has anything changed?
The Brain Trees put a lot more materials in the same space.
Either no relog, or one relog, if in a decent location.
I would not send people 1.5KLY to crystaline shards as the recommend way to get materials.
On the other hand, they can make a fun tourist visit if someone likes exploring.
