Materials farming in 2024
Hi, haven't played for a while. I've red that missions materials rewards are more profitable now. Does it mean it's more profitable to run missions or shooting trees, farming crashed anaconda etc. are still the best method?

I would recommend picking a mission with the materials you need (don't forget passenger missions)

E.g. if you want Datamined Wake Exceptions, find a mission you can do which offers (usually) 20 of them. That's enough for 4 fully g5 engineered FSDs.

You can get raws, encoded and manufactured from missions.

If you want to farm ...

HGEs now have 80-100 (x 3) manufactured materials at each, so there are 4-5 categories you can fill to 100% by visiting one HGE for each.

Jameson now has 8 datapoints instead of 4, and they give you 30+ encoded each instead of 4.

Crashed Anacondas have 15 canister racks with tons of raws each.

They are 9 data points if I count them correctly. Only Adaptive Encryptors Capture that fill up from 0 to 100 at once (if you're lucky) from those 9 points, otherwise next relog should enough. The Atypical Encryption Archives needs at least 1x relog to fill up from 0 to 150. Other mats—Cracked Industrial Firmware and Modified Consumer Firmware are still slow and need many multiple relog to fill them up.

Just fill up the first two, visit Material Trader on Ray Gateway station at Diaguandri system to trade them ALL for other mats. Head back to Jameson's Site for another farming. Use ship with a better jump range during this back and forth process.

This site conatins information you need: https://sites.google.com/view/elite-materials/collection?authuser=0. For farming HGEs, nowadays Anaconda is the best ship - fill it with a handful of collector limpet controlelrs and you should be good. I wouldn't focus on mission rewards and get all you need yourself.

To my knowledge, best methods are:
  1. For manufactured - make an Anaconda for HGE farming (lots of collector limpet controllers) and go to HGEs, to either get all specific G5 materials or stock up on imperial shielding and go trade for the mats you need, repeat. IMHO looking for specific HGEs is less annoying. Do it once and forget.
  2. For encoded - Jameson crash site, then trade.
  3. For raw mats - crystalline forests. Take mines > missiles > flak and bomb them, then use collector limpets to scoop mats up.

I've yet to see any player using crystalline forests that were of a size that good Volcanism couldn't offer about as many needle crystals.

Players I've seen using the crystalline forests are relog heavy, over and over.

Has anything changed?

The Brain Trees put a lot more materials in the same space.
Either no relog, or one relog, if in a decent location.

I would not send people 1.5KLY to crystaline shards as the recommend way to get materials.
On the other hand, they can make a fun tourist visit if someone likes exploring.

Agree, the brain trees are a bit closer to civilization, last time I was there was before the engineering update, probably 2 months for me now and just starting to get a bit low. Will have to check out the crashed ships before I head back out there for sure...
+1 to mission rewards. That with the huge boost to the HGEs is basically all you need.
