Fungoida and mountain landings
I'm curious to know if anyone simply skips scanning plant lifeforms in mountainous areas that are notoriously difficult to land in, or if you persevere and keep trying to find a suitable site.

I find it difficult to leave those behind, it offends my sense of completion, but I waste so much time that it's really not worth it in terms of credits.

I have a hard time leaving an unscanned plant on a planet, especially if it's the last one.

I use a DBX for this reason. Can't imagine what it would be like in a Phantom or a Conda.

I carry a Scorpion and Scarab SRV. If the terrain is really bad I deploy the scorp.

Yeah, I fly a Phantom for exploration, and it gets difficult in those really mountainous regions. Other than that, it's almost a perfect exploration ship. I should invest in and engineer my DBX though, that's a pretty good idea.

I didn't think the DBX could carry two SRVs? That goes to show you how often I use mine. It's usually used as my bubble ship. Extremely long jump range and snappy controls.

Maybe I'll outfit mine the same way. And yep, multiple SRVs.

What I'm currently using for exploration:

I like having a beam laser to tickle stellar phenomena, and a mine launcher for brain trees/shards/etc.

If it's there - I'll always find a way to scan it.
In a DBX I've never had an issue finding a parking spot in mountainous areas. SRVs are sometimes useless in these areas so an Artemis with Improved Jump Assist and Improved Battery Capacity helps. Some of these places have long steep drops you have to then find your way out of.

The Imperial Courier is the smallest ship I've managed to squeeze an SRV bay into. I do all of my exo-bio in Unexplored space so there's no need for weapons. Just a small shield for rough landings, a Surface Scanner, an extra fuel tank and the SRV bay. I have an Imperial Eagle spec'd similarly without the SRV bay and it's a good little ship too.
i outfitted a cobra so i could land easier in the mountains. that said, fungoidia can be/is one of the harder ones to scan because of the terrain. sometimes you get a nice little valley to land in, sometimes your trying to land on a ledge.

I was going to use a sidewinder for the same reason. smaller ship is easier to land.

I find many of the Fungoida in rocky outcrops that populate the plains. It is far easier to land and scan those and easier to spot if you use Night Vision.

I use a stripped down DBX with no weapons, the best FSD engineered and the best fuel scoop much needed for exploration beyond the known galaxy. I have had trouble finding a landing point on planets that appear to have nothing but mountainous rugged terrain but patience has been rewarded. With only a scarab, I have had climbing challenges but none that, again, patience hasn't overcome. The fun is in there always being a way to get the job done, so the more rugged the terrain, the more fun.

You can fit an SRV bay into a Sidewinder. That'll land anywhere.

I haven't tried that yet. I figured if the Eagle couldn't power a Shield and an SRV bay, anything smaller would probably be a waste of time. I'm pretty confident in my flying skills but when I've got a few hundred million credits worth of exo-bio data on me, I'm not going anywhere without a buffer between me and the ground. lol

I always fly the DBX, so I usually go after the hard to reach exobios like Fungoida on mountain tops. Although, if it's a particularly dense exobio system with three or more planets with 6 or more bios then I'll tend to skip the more annoying ones. Last thing I want to do is spend a half an hour per planet just trying to scan some mushrooms on cliff faces.

You could also try the Viper mk IV. It doesn't have the jump range of the DBX, but it has the second smallest footprint in the game, and a very good jump range for a non-explorer. Landing in the mountains is a simple task for a Viper.

Kraits are perhaps the worst medium ship for landing on planets. Not a good choice for exobiology.

I built a dolphin for exobio a year or two back. Small ship, small footprint, runs cold, good jump range, looks really good.
