Size 2 torps have 2 torps
Size 3 torps have 4 torps
So, on something like a type 10 you can have 24 torps. :D
Useless though, unless you add some very specific engineering effects.
If you do though, you can kill just about any ship in the game quickly. Specifically engineer some with Reverb Cascade and some with Penetrator.
Can be fun though, slapping them on non combat ships and nuking pirates who come after you.
Yeah, limited in use, but good for single target missions or as you say, surprising pirates. I've been tempted to kit out a big trade ship like this and hanging around a busy system waiting for gankers to come along and give them a nice surprise. I'm sure a lot don't put PDTs on their ships, instead choosing to stack shield boosters instead.
Overconfidence might get them and lack of knowledge of what engineered torps can do.
Or one CMDR as the bait, and a second one in a silent runner with the torps.
