Torpedo Pylon ammo?
I can only carry two torpedoes? It won't even let me have 2 reserves just straight up 1 for each hardpoint

yes. bigger hardpoints allows you to carry more torpedoes, but they always very limited.

Don't use torpedoes.

Size 1 torps have 1 torp
Size 2 torps have 2 torps
Size 3 torps have 4 torps

So, on something like a type 10 you can have 24 torps. :D

Useless though, unless you add some very specific engineering effects.

If you do though, you can kill just about any ship in the game quickly. Specifically engineer some with Reverb Cascade and some with Penetrator.

Pretty useless without engineering, and you can kill 1-2 ships even with engineering before running out.

Can be fun though, slapping them on non combat ships and nuking pirates who come after you.

Yeah, limited in use, but good for single target missions or as you say, surprising pirates. I've been tempted to kit out a big trade ship like this and hanging around a busy system waiting for gankers to come along and give them a nice surprise. I'm sure a lot don't put PDTs on their ships, instead choosing to stack shield boosters instead.

I’ve done it with my cutter, it’s great against npc interdictions while trading, no npc can survive all those revirb and then power plant targeted torpedoes. The problem with fighting players would be getting the lock on and not letting them just boost away from the torps.

Overconfidence might get them and lack of knowledge of what engineered torps can do.

Or one CMDR as the bait, and a second one in a silent runner with the torps.

Torps last 2 minutes and while they do inherit your speed for 2 seconds they slow to 250 m/s (AKA a crawl) after that. They're useless on a T-10, do NOT put torps on your T-10. The T-10 is too slow to make use of them. I wouldn't recommend them in general tbh but if you want to run them, fast ships. Effective range of like 2k on a viper or Mamba. Arming distance matters. so you'll probably never hit them in T-10 range
where can we read about arming distance , had no idea they needed to start far away to be effective

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
