Another way is to use either EDSY or CORIOLIS and either import your own ships or just create / pick a couple of the pre-set ships, and compare the differences as you change a weapon. You can have 2 browser sessions open to compare. So open a browser window with a ship in either utility, set the ship with the weapon you have, and right click and "duplicate tab" so that you have the same aircraft in both tabs, and change the weapon in the second one and look at it.
Easy way is to go to this site, pick one of the "default" loads (your ship), and it will show what it comes with as if you had bought it new. Then adjust it to show the weapon you have, duplicate the tab as I mentioned, and pick the new weapon and compare the two.
EDSY link [edsy.org]
(note: in EDSY, at the bottom, you will see all the overall stats. So as you change the weapon, look at the bottom, in the WPN section, it will show stats, and you can hover over each stat and it will explain what it means)
(But as said above, EDSY is a good tool, and faster, to plan final-build purchases with.)
But yes, just look around the screens in game when you are doing those things, in different ways it explains the differences if you equip / replace a module / weapon.
You will find other ways, like mentioned before.
Also remember once you start engineering your ship (you'll want to engineer the FSD pretty soon and first at Felicity Farseer), to look at the bottom of the screen when upgrading things like the FSD. There you will see the benefits and takeaways fo the various engieering choices. It's also wise to google that so you can see what the recommended engineering choices are.
In addition to that, if you create a profile on INARA, and link your character / API key, it will track your engineering materials. You can create "wish lists" of blueprints to upgrade your weapons and modules, and INARA will track your materials needed and tell you if you have enough materials, and show exactly what and how many materials you are short for each engineering upgrade. That way you don't waste time going to an engineer only to find out you don't have everything you need to upgrade.
Keep looking for another nhss, or detour into the Thargoid systems under (galatically) Felicity?
These days - you can just buy them if you like!
