Place marker on surface
Is it possible to place a marker on the surface of a planet while in your ship, so you can return to it later on foot?

I am looking for Fungoida, found 2 samples, but having a hard time finding the third.
I see some from the air, but cant land anywhere near it. My SRV cant handle the terrain either, so I end up going on foot and using the boost to boost myself up the mountains.
Unfortunately I can never find the spot where I found the fungoids, and it is so rare it is becoming impossible. Might end up giving up, but I wanted to get just one sample of this species, so if I could place a marker while in my ship, I could just land at the nearest bit of flat surface and return to the same spot on foot.

Thanks

Both ships and SRVs have an onboard GPS; right side, just above the radar.
(only shows when planetside for obvious reasons x)
Note down the coordinates you need.

Oh, and when on foot your compass will show a marker for your other samples.

Would be nice if they added those markers to both ships and SRVs too.

Not gonna lie, I would love the ability to set a bookmark on a planet that you can use to land. It would certainly be a nice QoL addition.

Thanks, that did the trick, well actually I found another one while on foot before I got to the one I found in my ship lol. Spotted the GPS on my foot compass as well. One of the things I rarely pay attention to.

Put the coords into SRV Survey and it will show an on screen compass back to that spot.

I'm not exactly sure, but i don't think everything survives re-logging. So if you put a book mark down for something interesting like a wreck on the surface for example (non-mission related, randomly generated), that wreck location may not be there next time you log in. I think the same may go for terrain features as they seem randomly generated on the instance as you happen upon it (sure that mountain will still be there if you do a 180 and fly back to it, but may not be there if you log out and back in again later). Dunno though, just seems like it's happened to me that way times before...

The terrain and the geological and biological features do stay the same though. So yes, it might not work for bookmarking a temporary POI, but being able to put a permanent bookmark at certain coordiantes would definitely be nice for a variety of reasons.

You can do that by writing down the coordinates. :D

An ingame journal could be a nigh indispensable tool fer sure tho.

You might want to take a look at ED CoPilot, that has great feature for displaying a compass on screen based on coords you enter, and distance. It's great for exo tracking... check out this 5min vid.

Yeah, either bookmarks or that... I've moved since I started playing and already "lost" one of my journals where I'd written down a bunch of stuff so I definitely would prefer an in-game way to bookmark stuff or keep notes.

The bookmark route would have the added benefit of being a lot easier to find on approach and dropping you out of orbital cruise right where you want to be. Personally, I think both the ability to place such a bookmark and an in-game journal (even if it's limited to a certain number of characters, as long as it's reasonable) would be a nice QoL addition.

Yeah I think the point of in game book marks is also that they would be navigable (show up in navigation, could be selected as a marker and travel towards it showing in the ship/SRV HUD). Not merely visual "arrow" marker on a map.

+1 markers/bookmarks/beacons or whatever for surfaces would still be a great QoL
