By the way, actually you have also the Alliance Chieftain available with AX Combat build in sales.
Just had my first ever run-in with a few scouts and a Cyclops.
The scouts were no problem but I couldn't put much of a dent in the Cyclops. Happily though, I survive the encounter and jumped away with 40 % hull remaining.

My rebuy for that ship is 993 credits.
I did re-engineer the beam laser for long-range/Thermal Vent instead of the Efficient/Thermal Vent it came with, and that didn't affect the rebuy. That's also negated the heat gain from the Bi-weave shields coming back on line every thirty seconds.
I have taken out a handful of Cyclops, but haven't gotten the hang of the bigger ones yet.
Swapping it for a hull or module reinforcement would be negligible for rebuy cost (but you would lose the shield for good)
I went ahead & bought it. I swapped the nanite torpedo out for AX multi canons as I am not doing Titan runs just yet. I am getting used to the combat, Scouts first then I tried one of the Interceptors. On the first attempt, let's just say, I hope the debris choked him.

Make sure you take loads of 'kill 1/2/3 cyclops' missions
First, scan it so you can ID it and subtarget the hearts.
(a) Then pour the damage in until one of the hearts starts glowing
Then subtarget that heart and shoot it out, watching the damage.
Don't hit the rest of the interceptor or the shields come up. ('panic shield')
When the heart goes boom, the cyclops shields up and then launches one of a variety of attacks - caustic missiles or EMP pulse, for example.
Wear the shields down with lasers/multis, or just keep your distance until they're gone.
Repeat from (a)
After the last heart is gone it's vulnerable and you can blow it up.
Just come back & tried this. It took a couple of goes but I finally did it and took the bugger down. Thank you.
