getting basic materials (like iron, nickel etc)
Need a casual reminder since i took half a year long for a break ( and because i was too distracted with other games) and i kinda need a reminder what's the most efficient way to gather basic materials. i know you can them from asteroid fields and/or planets but... i feel like planets aren't quite efficient for that, unless it's the opposite... i forgor.

The best way is to go to whatever source of high grade material tickles your fancy, and then trade down at a material trader.

Some manufactured materials have been turbobuffed, like high grade emission signals giving 50 grade 4-5 mats or whatever. Is there an equivalente for raw mats and data? I don't know if popular sites like Jameson crash were changed with the update that reduced the grinding some time ago.

Crashed Condas:
Orrere planet 2B
Koli Discii C6a
Hip 16613 1A

Each of those has 14-17 cargo racks you can break apart to get at the raws.

Yeah what Sighman says.

I know there are sites, but I'm also a weirdo who prefers to collect on the go, driving along planet surfaces. Apologies, should have said I personally couldn't tell you where those sites are.

High metal planets with geological activity. You will find fields to farm.

I generally do a bit of mining when i want some raw materials. Then trade for whatever i need.

For manufactured, high grade emissions.

For data... erm... just trade, always have more than enough of that to not have to bother collecting. Got loads of low level stuff from just scanning ships, so always plenty to trade with.

EDIT: One thing i often do, is if i take a mission, and there is a material reward, i'll accept that in return for less credits.

Also, powerplay care packages, they nicely fill you up with materials. Once you get past the first few ranks you get a care package most levels, which is nice.

Correct. -and using mines/flechette + collector limpets from altitude makes it a breeze.

OP look for planets/moons with volcanic activity, then check the composition to check it has what you need. -right side information on the system map. DSS and then you can find fields.

I see... it is way more efficient that just hoping basic metals drop from asteroids indeed... well guess i can do that then. been so long i've driven on barren planets

They also appear when you laser mining asteroids though. Not efficient but it's on the way.

yeah that's what i've been doing at first... but found the efficiency be hecking lacking.

Prospecting is tedious but fun to drive the buggy. I don't think its the best way to get raw mats though

The best way is to farm highest grade and then trade down to low grades.

I have a special farming conda for that with 5x5A limpet controllers, cargo and 2 rapid fire dumb missile racks. Empty it jumps for 82ly, with 200 limpets on board about 62 ly. When I need to stock up on highest grade raw mats, I visit three places. I don't recall the exact system and planet names, I have bookmarks on my map and would need to look it up.
First I go to a system that is about 1500 ly from bubble, which is maybe 30 jumps for the conda. I get there in about 20 minutes. There I visit 3 planets. Flying low over surface until finding a large group of crystals. Then I bomb the crystals with missiles and release the limpets to collect them. It takes about 10 minutes to stock up from 0 to full.
Then I visit another system 500ly away from the first stop. There are also 3 planets for other raw mats. Finally I visit one more where I visit just one planet for selenium which I get from bombing brain trees. The whole trip is about 2 hours to stock up full on all highest grade raw mats. If you wish I look up my bookmarks and share the system and planet names.

i never expected that to be a thing tbh. Maybe i'll try that out with type 8

HGEs are just silly now. I made the mistake of going in with a single collector limpet controller... Thought maybe I'd get a couple of dozen... Took a while, but it completely filled a couple of high grade (4/5) mats... 0-150.

Trade down from those, you'll have tons of the lower end stuff.

You can also get top level materials as mission rewards now. I have completely stocked up on nearly all grade 5 data and manufactured, and grade 4 raw (notably missing Selenium, as always) just by stacking massacre missions over the past few days.
