Unable to use Power Injection Malware

Hi all! Who can say why I am unable to use Power Injection Malware? I took out every one at the base, tried to upload the power malware injection but the game just doesn't let me. The malware is there I just can't press it. When I first asked for help with this, I was told that it only works in systems that have unoccupied status with the power I am pledged to. Found one, went there, cleared out the base, same problem. I am the data port, I have the malware on me, just can't upload it. Any ideas why?

Sorry, no idea here. I assume they would be used against systems where the enemy power is at least encroaching, because otherwise its not going to make any difference. Malware against Winters isn't going to be worth damn unless its done at a location under the influence of Winters.

But what do i know? There are plenty of bugs still existing in relation to PP2, so might need a few weeks of patches before everything gets more or less sorted out.

The system almost certainly has to be in range of one of your Strongholds. You can't just start a claim over an unoccupied system anywhere you like (Uploading malware counts as points for your power, ie. starting an acquisition)

Thank you Septimus and Agony_Aunt for your replies. I have tried an unoccupied system closest to the stronghold of my faction, whether it is within range or not I cannot say as I don't know how to see the range of the stronghold, it was 34 ly away. Unfortunately I have still not found a settlement where I can upload the malware. I will keep trying but it will be blind guesses at this point.

If anyone has a guide or some info on the matter I would very much appreciate it.

Make sure you're in Powerplay map mode
On the galmap, click the stronghold where you got the data.
In the popup box on the right, click the Strategic View button.
All systems in range of the stronghold will be connected to it.
You want an unoccupied (open circle) system connected to the stronghold with a line.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did as you advised, since I am pledged to Aisling Duval, I jumped to Cubeo (her stronghold) and found an unoccupied system Bhrites, which is connected by a blue line to the stonghold. The system is independent, with communist government. Tried it there, no luck. Still cannot upload either of the power malware programs (I now bring both just to try). Maybe it depends on a settlement? I just choose a random settlement in the system with lowest security.

With the malware I think it depends on the data port you choose - e.g. in the CMD building, not some low-level HAB.

Try reading the info from the inventory screen.
