Type 8
When will the Type 8 be available for purchase in-game? Just easing back into game, and the Type 8 looks really interesting.

Later this month is when it's supposed to be available for credits, otherwise you need to spend ARX to get it.

Will be available for credit purchase some time around the 27th of November.

The 28th is the date that's been given.

Funny cause usually when there's a new update and a new ship the last one goes in the game with all the other ships... devs must've sold a lot of them so they don't want to kill the golden goose yet. My guess is it's going to be the same with the mandalay if not longer

It's not unreasonable to assume they'd milk the cash cow for as many buckets as it'll fill. They'll release it when it stops making money.

Last one, and usually?

There's only been one cash ship that's thus far reached general availability.

There's no pattern to be had here and thus no "usually" about it.

I think they didn't want to include it a week or two early with the PP2 update, and they didn't want to release a patch on the 7th. Therefore it would be logical to assume they're planning a patch around the 28th, and that will have the unlocked T8 in it.

In the mean time peoples are buying the T8 for real cash ; )

TBH I fully expect to see Arx-only ships (I.e. no free availability ever) at some point in the near future.

Let's see how long the Mandy is Arx-only first, and the Cobra after it.

FDev may be falling to the dark side of gaming, but so far it's been a graceful fall. I have no reason to think they will suddenly have cash only ships. FDev gets the cash, players willing to shell out that cash get the ships sooner, and people that wait (many of whom would never pay cash anyway) eventually get the new ships too.

Cash only ships would alienate a large part of the player base without significantly increasing cash-flows. The only way that would make business sense is if they had server capacity issues.

I'm going to bookmark this comment for posterity.

Time will tell if I need to revisit it.

I'm honored! For reference, not even Star Citizen, which has the most successful cash grabbing operation I've ever seen has cash only ships.

For sure.

But this isn't Star Citizen. It is one among many, many games of various genres that exists, however.

You think I am only talking about space sims here?

That's a very narrow way to look at things, and frankly rather disingenuous for the purposes of considering the practices used by the industry. They aren't specific to any one genre.
