System Permits
Hello, I was playing Elite Dangerous Odyssey and did a transport mission, after delivering the goods to the person, I had to go back to Chamberlain's Rest, however, when trying to super jump back to the HIP 97950 system but it said I need a permit to go there. I have been at the HIP 97950 for a while and had never needed a permit to be there. How did I get a permit for the HIP 97950 system?

This is so silly. They don't even warn you if you do a mission and it's goal is outside the starter area and you do the mission and cannot complete it??? Jerks...

The mission has nothing to do with it. The people in question ranked up and out of their permits. No way fir a mission to warn that unless every mission in the game does... and imagine the confusion that would cause

That's not true.

You're thinking Defender.

NMS is what happens when developers listen to and implement players wants.

I'm only a few hours into the game and I'm already fed up. It's just annoying.

Starfield and No Man's Sky are much more fun than this gameplay cramp.
You are not wrong there. For whatever reason, FDev decided to spend their development efforts on the simulation aspect of the game and more or less ignored implementing tools to operate inside that simulation.

This has the unfortunate effect of punishing new players who do not know about these tools.

As a side-note, I still enjoy No Man's Sky from time to time, and liked Starfield, but they are vastly different games from ED.

If I'm correct, that's a starter system, which is only for new players to the game, once you leave a starter system, you can't go back. I don't believe that the game checks if you'll actually to be able to return to the system your mission came from

Oh that explain my confusion :) It's a bit of an "Elden Ring - Golden Knight" manoeuvre though ;] I suppose I'll take the penalty of a mission timing out, and build back from there.

It however opens up a completely new question (as in - let me hijack the topic). While researching the system permits in game I discovered that I have one - for a system two days beyond the ass of the galaxy. Initially I assumed that that was a mistake locking me out of the starter system, but if this is not the case, does everyone get a permit to some god forsaken corner? And why?

I’m not actually sure what that is, could you give me the name of the system? I haven’t heard of that before

There's one system permit you can only get by ranking up in CQC. I think said system contains the CQC play areas?

I typically skip games that have tutorials, though I did run through the ED flight tutorial, just to see how it works.

There's nothing better than a game that just dumps you into a world and says, 'go figure it out, noob'.

After finding it on the map it's not nearly as far as I thought... It's a system in the HIP 22*** range in the Pleiades Sector. Please excuse my mistrust, years of mmos ate away all my trust in humanity :]

It's not HIP 22460 is it?

Yep I love games like that. Same reason I avoid how-to videos on YT, reading the manual and any helpful tips that might appear on screen.

Me trying to be obscure :D yes. What's special about it?

https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/HIP_22460

there was a big battle there a while ago and the entire system is still an active warzone against the Thargoids. There's a player-driven mission aimed at reclaiming it this month, led by AXI, one of the major player groups.
