Elite Dangerous 2
Good morning to all Steam friends. A question, in your opinion wouldn't it be a good idea to think and develop a new Elite Dangerous? A modern one with modern graphics? I think the time is ripe

I dunno...They have already invested time and resources in this one and have just now figured out the new revenue stream...I am good with another purchasable DLC or add-on...Maybe if they revive the profitability of this one greatly, we can look forward to another game and scope...For now this will do...They won't buy another thoroughbred till this one's leg heals up...I still love these graphics...It is why I keep coming back after breaks...

No, I really don't see the point in doing that. It would be a bad move for Frontier, I'm sure. They stand to make more money by continuing to develop their flagship game which has a loyal (bordering on fanatical at times) player base that have already shown they're willing to keep spending money on this game.

Pulling the plug on future development and expecting all of your players to buy a whole new game and start from scratch while Frontier rebuilds everything they've worked on for years to get into Elite:Dangerous... that would be a far bigger gamble than just updating E:D's graphics again in a few years.

Nope,

I'd prefer they keep working on this one, as they have been doing...

The graphics engine is already a lot newer than the one we had at launch (unless you're still playing Legacy).
nope and nope. youre on a new engine. what graphically needs improved?

The graphics in ED are fine, it's the gameplay I'm interested in.

It could take eight to ten years to start from scratch and get it to where it is now, and during that entire time they wouldn't work on this edition. Sounds like another space game which appears to be in a perpetual alpha.

Hi guys, thanks to everyone for the replies. It's been many years since I played it. My last start was in December 2022, but actually even before, it gives me this date because I had bought the Oddisey expansion but I have never played yet. When I played the aliens had not yet been added. So I imagine it is very different today

I don't know what to answer you, when I played the aliens hadn't been added yet, so I don't know which version it is

The aliens were added as part of Horizons years ago. This was back when they were using the old (Legacy) pipeline.

The new rendering tech is part of Horizons Live/Odyssey.

By default, Steam installs the Live version of the game these days, so you'll already have the new rendering tech.

these days? so does that mean the new graphics render is coming to Steam too? And by what date exactly?

It was added with Odyssey. The folding into main happened some time after, like Horizons.

Legacy is the old 3.8 engine, and Live is the new 4.0 engine.

No. Updated graphics don't define the game. It's the substance/story and content within. They spent a lot of effort to get it what it is today, and developing a newer version for the sake of it not looking dated seems a waste of time and money.

I'd rather them spend the effort to enhance the economy so it's truly player driven, and grow the depth of larger ships and fleet management, so we're not merely stuck in "just me" mode all the time. I'd like the player's point of view to be larger than just a single pilot expected to only play as a single pilot the entire time, and more as business entity.

Unless they have fundamental issues with the current engine, nothing stopping them upgrading the graphics of it without creating a whole new game.

Plus it would take them years to create ED2, time and money they could spend adding more to the current game.

ok guys, thank you all! Listen, I remember that when I bought the Odyssey package, I remember that there was the icon on the desktop of the game, but once inside it started ED by default, that is, there was no warning that made me understand that Odyssey was also started.

DLCs usually hook into the main game (which is launched); they are very rarely standalone.
