Benefits of Powerplay other than roleplay?
So I'm just trying to understand what the benefits for each power are. I know that they each give you a unique weapon when you get to a certain rank, but I read that they aren't that good and you get regular weapons that are better. I've also read that they have different benefits in their controlled systems, like Li Yong-Rui having a 15% discount on all available modules in his controlled systems, but I don't understand if those are for everyone or if you have to be plegeded to get those. I currently am pleged to the Alliance but their benefits aren't all that good, and I can get their ships without a rank, so im considering becoming an imperial or going for Li Yong-Rui.

They are that good. But they have their special uses, and they are not always just a straight replacement for regular ones.

15% discounts are for everyone. You don't have to pledge to LYR, just to be in his controlled star system.

There are other benefits, though. Like more bounty hunting payments, more lucrative luxury items sales, better cartographics payments... You might want to read about each Power in game - there is a menu that opens a list of Powers, and what each one provides you with.

I'm supporting Li Young-Rui. I have 15% discount on ships and modules. I got the packhounds and bought 3, should buy more if ever I decided to leave. This week working on being raiting 5. Last night got in 2500 merits, with a Type-10. Got attacked twice, once by a Anaconda and the other ship a Type-10. Each paid over 600,000 in credits after destroying them. You could haul with a Type-9 and get your runs in quicker but, I like to be able to destroy interdicters with my T-10.

If you do a transport run with what ever ship you use, you can make a profit instead of going in the red with all the power commodities you buy. Last night I chose just to jump once to the destination, unload then load up with Cobalt and fly back to home system gaining over 1 million in profit, which helps with the cost of the power commodities that you purchase to get your merits. I could make a longer trip to gain over 8 million before heading to home system but, time is more important to me right now, not just credits.

Why am I doing this? I want to, plain and simple. Next Thursday get a payday of 5 million for the week and the Thursday after I'll get 50 million for the week and plus get 200% increase on all exploration data if I sell in controlled or exploited systems. That's huge for me. I like exploring and that turns into a big profit.

For controlled or exploited systems. I will be playing with in a couple of weeks, choosing system that I can vote on to prepare, expansion or control. Will be longer trips and all my commodities won't be just going to one place. Will be cool to see if I can make changes in the territories of Li Young-Rui.

AFK farming right now. Don't mind writing this while farming. Pirates seem to spawn faster when I'm surfing the net :)

I'd say that the 50mil payout/week (IIRC) is a good benefit too. =)

I think the effort required to keep that up would be better spent making some actual money.

You only loose 50%. Very easy to make up in one week. Great thing about Elite Dangerous, you can do what ever you want. So many different ways to play the game, not just PowerPlay.

Fair enough, for me it's more good padding that more or less trickles in while i do other stuff.

Depends how you get it.

If you get it through combat then yeah it's a nice weekly wage that can be earned pretty quickly/easily once you're rank 5 (staying there is a lot easier than getting there).

However if you're doing it by transporting powerplay goods, you either have to wait an obscenely long time just to fill your ship (half hour between each allocation), or spend a small fortune for extra allocations...

Not sure what your saying. I was able to stock up my T-10 at 25 goods at a time and not waiting at all. 2500 a day for 4 days gives me what I need for rating 5. Next week I lose 50% but I'll get 50 goods at a time and only need to do 2500 for 2 days in a week to keep my 50 million per week. For exploration how much does one make when coming back? Now add 200% on top of that...

IMHO the main benefit of power play is the opinion for player groups to work for a common goal (power).

2500 a day for 4 days!?!? Hauling 25 units at a time in a T10? That ♥♥♥♥'s ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hilarious! :Steammocking:

T10... 25 units... So that's 100 trips back and forth... 4 days...? You may as well be doing it in a Hauler :steamfacepalm:

If you didn't want to waste half the week running backwards and forwards constantly for 4 days: You could just fill your T10 with 500 units, and do one days worth in 5 trips... You could do the weeks worth in an hour.

Really! I was hauling 228 a trip but can put in my hold 25 a time next week 50? Don't understand people.

Sure haul 750 a time with a type 9 but getting ready to get interdicted.

And every time you put those 25 in your hold, you can pay for an extra allocation so you don't have to wait to pick up more. Obviously it's counter productive if you're trying to make money, but if you're trying to make money; there's much better ways than power play...

So what I just did was pledge to the Empire. I was deciding between the Empire and Li Yong-Rui because of his amazing 200% extra profit on exploration data, but I don't think that I was gonna be doing exploration forever so I chose the empire with it's Bounty bonuses, even though I'm not that good at fighting, i might as well try to learn. Also, the imperial slaves seem like a good commodity if I ever need some quick trading money.

Pfff to each their own bud! I play this game the way I want and I'm transporting goods back so, paying for the goods dosn't put me in the red that much. Didn't take that long for me. Hey do what you want man. Not hear trying to sell Powerplay just sharing what i'm doing.

Edit: In 24 hrs yesterday I made over 200 mil AFK farming. A little bit of my time for my Faction no big deal!!

You need to pay 100k per 10t of PP commodities. That means to get the Rating 3 you need 750 merits, meaning you will spend 7.5mil cr to "buy" the Commodities to achieve Rating 3 and buy the PP modules.

To reach Rating 5, you need 10,000 merits? That would be like 100mil , and you only get 50mil a week.
To make up that money, you will need to take a rather long exploration trip (and you only have 1 week) so you can make for example 50mil so you get double that, meaning 100mil on exploration pay + 50mil weekly pay, minus 100mil on investment.
The more exploration money, the more is "worth it".
Exploration doesn't pay that much, if you really want to go that route you may want to look at using https://www.spansh.co.uk/riches where mapping Earth Like Worlds, Ammonia, Water Worlds is where money really is.

Alternatively, as the exploration pay is the only incentive, you should go take a long exploration trip, map and discover stuff, take the time you want, make sure you have over 200mil worth of data, come back, get to rating 5, then sell. You get 200milx2 - 100mil (investment) = 300mil.
BUT, even then, the time it takes to get those 10k merits you can make money faster in a lot different ways.
