If I don't like this game, can I get a refund? Should I give it a try?
I know how stupid it probably sounds, but..Honestly, I didn't even know Steam had refunds until a few months ago. And I still wouldn't know how they work. You know, when I look at this game, I like what I see. I've watched videos and the like..I find the gameplay pretty relaxing. I think I'd love to play just to experinece being a space trucker, essentially. I'd probably dive into a bit of combat. So you know, I've been wanting this game for a long time..My gut's telling me to get this game, and give it a try. I know it has a learning curve, and it's challenging but..I love challenge.

Then I read all the reviews, and it's complicated. There's a lot of back and forth. People are saying it's boring, you spend a time doing a whole lot of nothing, and that it's practically empty of things to do. But I stay up to date on it, and I know avatars are planned for the future, among other things like multi-crew ships, which is a winner for me. I don't want to just be locked in my cockpit all the time. Then they alreday have Horizons, but..A lot of people are complaining about it because it lacks content, and it's overpriced(Which I agree on.)

Apperantly, people think the novelty of the game wears off quick. So I just don't know, to be honest. I've been looking at this game since 2014, trying to decide to get it or not. Just keeping a watchful eye.

You should contact steam to get your refund. Usually they refund games with less than 2hrs of playtime, but they said they are open for negotiations.

As for me, combat ingame is enjoyable, so I'll continue playing. I also should start trying to trade using in-game info because it seems that plotiing your own trading network is more enjoyable. As for exploring... I guess one should find yourself a group because going solo may turn out boring. If only traces of mysterious faction like artefacts of barnacles could be found somwhere beyond the bubble's borders.

It can be boring, if you don't like the style of gameplay. Many games i've played I thought were boring, but others would say they were amazing.

We are all individuals, with our own tastes.

So, before spending a penny, do research until you are fairly sure one way or the other. If you are still on the fence, i would suggest not buying.

However, if you don't mind shelling out a few quid for the base game. Give it a try. You only have 2 hours to try it with, to my mind, not enough, so just play it. If you don't like it, there are still many years of development ahead.

Wait and come back in a few years.

He doesnt have it yet. His quetion is if he can get a refund if he doesnt like it.
but i think the "dont like it" part comas later then 2 hours of play.
Keep an eye on horizon and maybe get it on sale some day, maybe end of the year

Agree, the "2h steam refund time" is way too short to tell if you like it or not. ED takes time to learn. After 2 h you can't do ♥♥♥♥.

I believe there is a demo available to play, though I don't know how or where, if comeone could correct me or point Starchild to the demo that might help.

I highly suggest waiting for the steam sales before purchasing the game -- 2 hours time limit for refund is far too short for this game. 2 hours in ED is enough for you take map out your controls and attempt basic tutorials. If you wait for sales for Horizons -- which should be like £10 (just like ED was), if you can't get refund well; it's £10 so nothing is a loss and £10 for complete horizons is a bloody bargain.

I suggest reading the manual, you can download that, give it a read and if it bores you then the game probably will, if after reading it, you really want to play, then you'll probably really enjoy it.

Played it recently. It's so outdated. Even the hud is not the same.

Hmm..Well, that was my holiday blunder. I bought seven games during Steams holiday sale, and I considered ED but..I decided against it. Then when I realized I had JUST enough money to buy it on sale, it was too late. So, maybe I'll wait for another sale..After reading the manual thing one of you sent me.

I think I like ED better than Star Citizen, though..Star Citizen seems to focus mostly on combat, even though I've heard they're planning on trading as well. Really, ED just seems like that type of game I play when I just want to relax. That's why I play primarily open world games, because sometimes all I want to do is drive down highways at night, or aimlessly glide through the air in a plane for hours. There's nothing that chills me better. It's really just very therapeutic.Besides, I've always had the Han Solo smuggler-type fantasy.

But I mean..It's definitely not a game I expect to play and all of a sudden, it's like this fast paced PEW PEW PEW EXPLOSIONS EVERYWHERE experience.

But, you know..You guys are right. I should research it more, and essentially wait for it to go on sale. By the way, does anyone have an idea when it might go on sale again? I just beat myself up when I missed my chance to try it during the holidays.

A wise decision. Next sale, probably not too soon. Maybe in Spring or Summer. My money is on Summer.

Thanks, you guys.! I really appreciate the help. This decision has been driving me crazy since the game went into beta. Have any of you guys tried Star Citizen? I'd like to try it sometime, but I'm kind of leaning away from it..It seems like the alpha has nothing but combat right now. I think I saw a video of someone racing, though..I hear mining and trading are planned, but..They don't talk about it very much, anymore. It's like they're focusing mostly on combat. And combat IS fun every now and then, but..You know, A game like Elite doesn't seem to focus on one thing over another. I just want to put on some of my music, and do some trading in ED. I'm just not a competitive person, and when I want to be, it's in short bursts. Most of the time, I just want to fight only if I have to, or if I'm being tailed by some dastardly space cops.

Star Citizen has great potential. Similarties and differences with ED. SC is more handcrafted, ED is more procgen. SC is has a smaller more compact gameworld, ED has a massive gameworld, but the accusation is that is empty.

Depends what appeals to you more.

As usual, make sure you do full research before commiting to anything.

Thank you..Offhand, I'd say that ED is considerably more uh..finished than Star Citizen. At least for now, anyway.. I can always try both, but..Just ONE more thing. I hate to bother you guys, but..What am I waiting for to go on sale, the base game, or Horizons? I've heard a few people say that if you buy Horizons, it pretty much comes with everything the base game already has. One of the reviews for Horizons actually warns you not to buy the base game, if you're planning to buy Horizons. Apperantly, that was their mistake, and they ended up having to pay for both Horizons and Elite Dangerous.

Base game costs you little to nothing now. Hint: You could buy base game, then horizons. When buying horizons while having base game you get a discount, so in the end it doesn't matter if you buy horizons or base game and horizons later - it'll be the same amount in the end.

I suggest you wait for horizons sale, so you get more for less money.
