Also, their Q.A. is either a singular 90-year old blind man being forced to work in a dimly lit cave, or simply non-existant.
I hear Saitek used to be good before MadCatz bought them, but never owned anything besides a post-MadCatz x52 Pro. Cannot recommend it for the price. First one developed weird throttle issues due to a frayed wire inside the housing (from constant rubbing/pinching) after about a month. My replacement doesn't register past 90% or more on the far right rotational axis, unless you really twist it really hard (meanwhile, left rotation is fine). For $150-$200, I expect the thing to last at *least* several thousand hours if not abused; or simply working correctly out-of-the-box would have been nice. And I am pretty darn gentle on my stuff - the throttle was not damaged by me in any way, and the second stick was just wonky with rotation right out of the box.
Then, let's not forget needing to open the stick itself to add decent magnets to the weak ones they stick in there, if you want real (or close enough) linearity on the stick and to remove the deadzone. Or how about having to open the throttle to remove the afterburner detents? Those got real old, real fast in games that don't make use of an afterburner - of which there are a lot of, including E:D. Oh, I also get the "unresponsive mouse/system" issue every time I unplug the x52 while the computer is on, requiring a hard reset of the PC (Win7 x64, for which the stick is developed for.)
Problem is there is no real competition in the middle class HOTAS market. All that exists is the low-end (Logitech, some TM models, generic stuff, etc.) and the high-end (TM Warthog, Black Mamba, etc.). Until someone decides to market a competitively-priced HOTAS with around the same feature-set as the Saitek models - and hopefully isn't a piece of crap - they'll sit comfortably in their position of being the only middle class HOTAS manufacturer forever.
I've had mine for 2 years now, and no issues at all.
I just pluged it in and it worked flawlessly, didn't have to install any drivers.
OP what happened to your COUGAR? I use mine for ELITE and various flight sims and it still works fine ( I did have to replace a pot in the throttle) but mine still works well all these years later.

Ive heard on these forums lots of woeful tales on this issue but havnt seen anything in the press. Can anyone link me to a mainstrem article on the issue?
