High emissions are a good source of manufacturing components and, even if the exchange rate is bad for the ones you need to exchange for, it isn't too hard to go out and restock at another high emission.
Good luck Commander! 07

Find high intensity zones, for getting g4 or g5 materials, which can be traded down for g3, g2, and g1 materials.
High emissions can net you 100 odd g5 manufactured components in one visit. Make sure you have collector limpets on your ship when you go looking for them.

So, for example, if you go to a well populated Imperial system and use your FSS, there is a decent chance of finding a High Grade Emission. Fly there, then when you enter, open your cargo bay scoop and launch a couple of limpets to collect the components. It will take a few minutes for them to fill your hold and, as it is an Imperial system, you will be getting Imperial shielding which you can use to trade down to get what you want. If you trade them all away, you can just find another imperial HGE and restock.
The wiki shows which components you can get from HGEs per system type. This is probably the easiest way to get high tier components as HGEs drop such a large amount of them now.
Lookk for missions that give you mats in the category you need and pick the level 5 or 4's then you can trade for what you need
I am honestly confused, I know that I had a 52.9 jump range when I logged off in a station, logged back in, now it's at 40 LY and all of the engineering that was done to increase FSD range are gone. Got it back up to a lvl 3, 47 LY range, but I am not sure what happened.
Normally the stuff you do is saved in your account, engineering, ships, paint jobs etc. it's almost impossible to lose stuff from one session to the other... it never happened to me anyways
Edit: 52 to 40 Ly could be the weight of your cargo or something you added to the ship, but it doesn't excuse the engineering gone... you're positive about that? have you checked your blueprint in engineering ?
Oh well, went back out, got it redone, now I am at 55.9
