Elite Dangerous

Python mk II is a NERF to the combat Python
So, according to pre-testers, the Python mk II added a large hardpoint to the Python. HOWEVER, they reduced the distributor from a size 7 to a size 6.

This means that the ship no longer has enough distributor power to even power all those guns. Having all the guns in the world doesn't matter if you can't power them. It's the biggest problem with the Federal Corvette, and the reason why the mk II will deal LESS damage than the classic Python.

Whoever designed this supposedly combat focused ship, doesn't really know much about combat. Hardpoints don't matter much... distributors do.

Oh well, we still have the classic Python, the Krait mk II, and the Federal Gunship, which can actually power all of their guns.

Honestly, doesn't matter a whole lot that it isn't all that good, Mamba was pretty much a dud when it came out as well and yet I've flown it almost exclusively over the FDL back then.

At the end of the day €15 isn't a whole lot of money, might as well buy it now since I'm pretty sure I'll be bored by ED again come August anyways :D

It's a new combat ship, don't care if it's mediocre at best, at least something fresh.

Full MC or full frag builds are a thing and for those it barely matters. With those hardpoints it will make an excellent fragship, especially combined with its manouverability.
Yes, builds like this exist... but they're hardly the most damaging builds. Frag builds can deal a lot of damage, but only at point blank range, typically only to large ships that are big enough to fill your full cockpit view, and they run out of ammo very quickly. Multicannons are just low damage weapons... so they won't see the DPS nerf associated with a smaller capacitor, since these builds already aren't built for maximum damage. Biggest problem with any kinetic build is the fact that high-end enemies, like the ones you see in CZs, use reactive surface composite with a ton of G5 engineered Heavy Duty hull reinforcements, so they really just don't take much damage from them, as shields also have high kinetic resistance. Absolute damage builds are absolutely the best way to kill them.

The fact that the Python can power beam, rail, plasma, and guardian weapons with its huge distributor, the same distributor used on the Federal Corvette, is what allows it a higher damage ceiling than its mk II variant, and a whole lot more Absolute damage to Absolutely kill elite enemies.

Oh wow a Medium combat specialist ship with a size 6 distributor, size 6 power plant, a very fat shield, terrible optional internal slots, and high firepower with no SLF option. Where have I seen this template before..?
Oh we have an FDL with a Size 6 shield instead of Size 5, and LLL MM slots instead of H MMMM slots.

We could make armor even remotely comparable to shields since 2,500 effective shield strength is better than 6,500 effective armor but no, we have an FDL with a fuel tank variant instead. Amazing.

I have so little hope that any of the new ships are going to do anything new.

Python does not use the same distributor as Corvette. Python, Krait II, Krait Phantom, Type 10, Imperial Cutter, and Federal Gunship all use Size 7 distributors.

Corvette and Anaconda are the only ships in the game that can equip a Size 8 Distributor.

You clearly do not understand that P2W is a concept. The concept is what all of us are against.

Their's apparently does ;)

I'm guessing they couldn't find the size 8 for their corvette at the time, or they were trying to trim a bit of excess weight; and forgot they could put a bigger one in.

Different combinations of hardpoints and distributors lead to different weapons being effective. More weapons that each deal slightly less damage will easily outperform the "best in slot" weapon you cannot actually run.

There's a reason you never see shock cannons; they may be strictly better than pretty much everything else, but a ship with shields and hardpoints to spare simply cannot fire them.

You see PAs because they are 1. the best compromise for the ships most players like to use in combat and 2. because the absolute damage rewards skill while punishing thoughtlessness less, which is what a lot of people want in a game. Not everyone, of course, but there's other games for different tastes.

All this really means is that a Python MkII can't use Python MkI builds. I'm actually not sure I like that, but it doesn't necessarily make the Python MkII a bad ship.
