3E and 3A
I have an opportunity to change my thrusters from a 3E to a 3A is there a significant difference cause it's over a mil and I'm not that far in so a mil is a lot for me loll
Thanks; )

Definitely, you should read parameters of components and start using tools like coriolis. The whole game revolves around those parameters.
Specific to your question, power consumption, heat, weight, performance, everything changes.
But since you asked such a question, here is a general tip: design your ship by components first, then buy the components. Much less hassle and better results that way.

I will give you a simple answer.

If you got power plant and distributor to handle it, yes.
"A" grade modules require more power, and when boosting this thruster will drain more from the ship capacitor, therefore needing better power distributor.

If you run an A grade thruster with E grade PP and PD, you will not take advantage out of it.

Cool thanks ; )
I kind of got the best of everything for my ship (that could fit the slot) since i will keep it for a while. pretty happy with it so far : )

A general rule, for the core modules at least, is:

E - Minimum viable product
D - Lightweight
C - Standard
B - Armoured (Heaviest but most damage resistant)
A - Best performance

Be careful when swapping your FSD (frame shift drive). Make sure that you keep the same size. Even an A rated unit will kill your jump range, if it's too small for your ship.

You'll see some stats at the bottom of the outfitting page, there's 3 or 4 pages there for you to cycle through that will show you what each new module will do to various aspects of your ship performance.

A modules also run the coolest...

I usually run D grade life support and scanners to save on weight...Only once have I had to race to a station with a broken canopy...7 minutes is enough for in system...That will fray your nerves...HUD is next to useless...Scanners you might want A grade for more range, but when you start engineering, you can boost a D scanner range quite nicely and benefit from less weight as well...

Good rule of thumb starting out is everything A grade except life support and scanners...Those you want D grade...I have never found much use for B, C and E...More armor on the B is nice but module protection kind of makes it more of a jump burden than a bonus...

In the case of thrusters, there are also "Enhanced performance thrusters" that are available in 2A and 3A sizes. You get them from the engineer workshops that modify thrusters.

I just discovered those this year...I have an Imp Courier that runs 625/848...Those engines are sweet...

First upgrades should be swapping any E-rated stuff for D-rated in the same size. This is the minimal cost upgrade for new players, or people who just bought large ships they can't afford to equip properly.

Once I can afford them, and if I'm keeping the ship, I usually go for A-rated power after that, followed by A-rated thrusters, distro and FSD.

The rest depends on what the build is for.

Yeah...A rated if you plan to keep ship...They are expensive starting out...I always A rated my FSD even on the interim ships (build up to a Python)...The extra jump range just makes things easier...

the in game menu literally tells you. and more speed = more maneuverability

You can also see the pitch/yaw values as you compare different thrusters.

(None have any benefit in supercruise btw)

If you have a little bit of money and a 2nd ship for travel you might even go with a D rated frameshift drive for a combat ship.
