P.S And major boost with prepaid ships, ppl with X accounts will celebrate.
So far the Pre-paid ships (regardless of what you think about the idea) are not at all ideal configurations that would require tweaking to be actually good, not as much as building from scratch, but would still require tweaking.
In a system that is in a stronghold state for a power, there will be a carrier and support ships (megaships) that can be attacked (or defended) - components that can be damaged, data ports scanned and I believe he said cargo hatches as well.
Doing enough damage would cause the carrier to leave the system, but they didn't offer any details of what kind of effort that would require - whether it be like a multi-day event like a factional war in system or something else.
Been asked for so many times, never going to happen.
Why they can't give us a true solo mode where we can employ NPC wing members with our own private BGS that doesn't interfere with the precious BGS of MMO-types is beyond me. BGS guilds would appreciate the fact that "ghosts" no longer mess with their factions, so having a true solo mode (or better yet, make it so that private group mode is actually private group mode, even if it's a private group of one) that lets us benefit from wing mechanics is a win/win for everyone involved.
Actually, i believe the opposite to be true. The problem with Elite is that every single piece of content always has to be balanced so that Solo players could access it. Every single feature has to work in single player whether that makes sense or not. In 10 years of Elite being around we've never gotten anything that actually REQUIRES multiple players.
Just to mention an example, When Fleet Carriers were first announced, they were going to be a Fleet thing. As in they would be owned and controlled by player fleets rather than individual commanders. But because that meant Solo players would be unable to own fleet carriers, it never happened. Fleet carriers could've been an integral part of how players interacted with each other, but because that wouldn't work for Solo players, they got reduced to the glorified portable garages we have today.
In fact, i believe that if Elite had been allowed to be more like an MMO, as in having activities that REQUIRE multiple players being part of a group and/or flying together in the same instance, and giving such player fleets better guild tools, it would probably be in much better health than it is.
You could argue that "a sufficiently skilled solo pilot can kill a hydra" and maybe be correct for the top 1% of solo AX pilots. But yeah. The vast majority can't. And will never be able to do so. Hydras, medusas, and even Basilisks are group raids... only the Cyclops can reliably be soloed by your typical solo player.
And the wing-focused difficulty of 3/4 of Thargoid interceptors has discouraged the vast majority of solo players, making them quit the game over these past five years. Because ALL community content released since the Fleet Carrier update has had a THARGOID focus.
A hybrid game state is fine, so long as you're giving both the guildies and the soloes what they want. They just haven't been doing so.
