But yes, whether because they announced some upcoming ships, or the ability to finally destroy titans, activity has increased. It's funny how it does that when you give people something to do and/or look forward to.
More frequent ship releases and meaningful updates will continue to wake the game up, so long as they deliver and don't disappoint.
But yeah, celebratory datapoints divorced of 10 years of context? It's a Bold Strategy Cotton, let's see how that works out for them.
I hope Fdev plans for the summer (or after all titans are defeated, whatever comes first) can keep the momentum going.
(and yeah, a single, niche Private Group has more Elite players than the whole of Steam. Something to keep in mind for those who think that steam charts are in any way representative of the whole Elite playerbase)
Just been grinding federal rank in my lil Cobra MK3 and enjoying it. So far the best way I've found to make money is the resource sites, just finishing off pirates, but want to try other things too.
Whatever people say, the position of Elite is still strong on the market.
That's not true in fact, I care about that in the way that there are enoughe people playing this game to keep it alive, and having some updates sometimes.
If think you mean Elite-style space games. Elite pre-dates Freelancer by almost 20 years! ;)
I will, no doubt, drift away again when whatever is coming next gets old. Hopefully it will keep going so I can come back again and again to sample new content.

I would have enjoy more faction's war for example, or a special spot or way to jump in another galaxy with alien species... but that again looks like too much like X universe perhaps.
