There are several VR players on these forums. I flew one around in my ship last night and he was using the camera suite locked to an over-the-shoulder view as we explored the Spire sites on foot. You definitely need to talk to him for his opinion.
For a bonus experience - consider getting Voice Attack, to give some commands by voice.
o7 Cmdr's
And yes i am the VR cmdr in Question .
I want to thank Cmdr Sighman for the epic journey through the thargoid content i was taken on last night . I can't type everything that happened in this post as it will take to long , But i will create a thread at some point .
Morsum ; I would be happy to team up to showcase the best ways to play in FULL VR 360 head tracking mode
( BOTH FLYING and WALKING IS POSSIBLE IN FULL VR )
I have made the above sentence in brackets because you will have people saying walking in VR is only projected to your image via a flat screen window .
( This is true )
However its possible to use a camera screen shot view to attach it to your characters face witch then enables the 1st person view witch can be done anywhere on foot to explore the game world .
Combat with on foot guns can be used in many different camera angles in VR ,
You will have to follow the gun shot fire rounds to hit the enemy target .
There is no Hud witch is why i do it this way .
If your fighting in a on-foot conflict zone and cant see witch enemy to shoot because you don't have a visible Hud as i explained previously .
Then you might say well how's that going work with no visible Hud ?
Well Then , Fear not !
In VR everything is scaled 1.1 witch means you can see the smallest details at distance.
All you need to do is look for a small red light located at the bottom of an enemies back ,
Your Ai team will have a green light instead .
You can also look at the movement of your team and use them as cover as it will help you to not get shot as much .
With no Hud you will get shot more .
Voice attack can be assigned to recharging your suit's energy cell and health so you NEVER need to leave FULL VR on foot again .

We both had a lot of fun on that trip, and it was good being in voice chat. I think it lasted over 4 hours all up?
Any veteran commanders out there... try teaming up with a newer player and give them a ride on your ship to take a look around stuff they maybe haven't seen yet.
Also can u link a location to find one of crashed thargoids that were inn the game over 5 years ago , The one i told u i saw once , And location to to find those tiny barnacles that the thargoids first went down to a planet ,
These are all the thargoid structures[docs.google.com], marked as Active or not. The active ones, you can drive your SRV up to the circular door, then disembark and move to the bottom right corner of the door, which will then let you inside.
This wiki page[elite-dangerous.fandom.com] lists the locations of the original Barnacle sites (not spires, or Barnacle Matrix)
That's kind of what I've been doing, with my tour bus... Help a few newbies learn the ropes, and see some sights sort of thing. I think when I get back from this tour, I'm going to have to spend a week or two in the bubble to financially recover. The bus just burns money when jumping a lot lol (paying double the market rate for tritium doesn't help)
And just to emphasise another point:
Save the control layout file from the game folder for each configuration for easily switching between mouse/keybord and hotas controls.
Same for graphic configuration for easily switching between screen and vr. You will be not be able to play VR with the same settings as the regular screen play.
For VR, supersampling will kill performance.
For VR Look to change the HUD color from orange to a more eye friendly color like green or light blue. ED HUD mod will help with that.
I play VR and it is great with elite. You are going to enjoy it.
Functions like extract/retract landing gear or activate/deactivate the ships headlights or nightvision are not time critical and can be used via the UI.
IIRC the standard binding for the saitek/logitech joystick binds all buttons needed for the UI navigation (with left/right & up/down on one hat, and with UI focus, select & exit to buttons).
All time critical functions should be on stick or throttle.
Controls like fire weapons & countermeasures, target selection, leaving/entering frameshift, ect...
IIRC those are also predefined in the standard binding.
1]Make sure you have a high end graphics card for trouble free VR.
2]Turn the sound effects down and adjust the ship's/npc voice level to complement playing your own music in the background help to feel like Peter Quill from Guardian's of the Galaxy.
3] Remember your control bindings !!
The HCS purchase will create a new "HCS" control scheme based on the HCS voicepack / Voiceattack commands). You can still change your HOTAS bindings to your content without changng any of the preset HCS voiceattack bindings.
With a bit of extra tweaking the the HCS profile, you will be flying in VR without ever taking your hands off the HOTAS in no time using HOTAS and Voicattack., along with having someone to ride along with you in your cockpit. The voicepacks have tons of commands to use, but learning the ones needed for basic operation of the ship doesn't take much time.
