Everyone plays on the same servers and the same instances, the game version just prevents you to do "features" that are bound to others DLCs.
I don't think that's entirely true. If i'm not mistaken, those using the Legacy versions are separated from those using the Live Versions.
I also found some threads on the official forum where players speculate that only about 1% of the active PC players play on legacy. So pretty much everyone migrated to the live version.
And why wouldn't they? That is where things move forward and are not stagnant.
I believe the reason it is kept alive is because that is where console players do multiplayer (?) since they did not get oddysssey or any updates thereafter because of hardware resons (?).
If it was not for the console version Leegacy would not exist.
Why on Earth (no pun intended) would you want more people playing on different versions of a game??
This is an MMO and at least we are all on the same server regardless of open play or a private session.
The OP is extremely sarcastic bordering on pasive aggressive. His post is an underhandet complaint about the existence of the legacy versions.
Ahh I see ty!
How are they expecting anyone to bother giving the game a chance?
I always have those episodes where I wanna give ED a chance, mainly for exploration and ship customization, but then keep running into one wall after another, like this one.
Which game version do I get? No idea.
Everyone says something different and the official sources only help when you have already been playing for a while so that you know what they are talking about and what exactly the implications are for the player experience.
No one needs to worry about the game versions unless they choose to do so. It is a non issue.
And as I have said above the only people playing the current live version of ED are PC players and of those a mere 1% plays legacy and no one knows if those guys do not also play live.
There is no seperation of the playerbase.
Foir this question there really is only one choice for you:
Do you want on foot experiences in space Stations and on planets?
If you answer yes: Get Elite Dangerous + Oddyssey DLC
If you answer no: Get just Elite Dangerous
Install the game. And in the launcher press play.
Don't worry about the versions button in the launcher.
The Live version is where you want to be because that is where 99% of the playerbase are.
In the game itself you have the choice everytime you start a session if you want to play solo, in a preset party, or full online.
All three modes connect you to the online servers and the same version of the galaxy. Only difference is whether you see other players or not and if it's only your group or everyone.
The impact of your actions on things like the background simulation are the same in all three variants.
Buy Elite Dangerous, you get all versions except the Odyssey DLC.
Add the Odyssey DLC and you now have everything.
Nope, Legacy uses the same galaxy servers as console. Live and Odyssey are on their own server together.
The people who responded aren't long-term players.
I have about 12,000 hours across the different versions. There's a long explanation as to why a ten-year-old game has multiple version, but my post above this one tells you what you need to know.
Yep I am aware of that. The three versions I refered to are those in the sentence before:
Online, Group or Solo play.
Dude just get the game onsale. Games like this ALWAYS go onsale due to age. Wait for spring.
You really like this game huh? How do you keep up going? The infernal grind kinda keeps me away from it...
