I guess I have turn down the videos I watch when I scan things then, though at the moment I am happy just to get to a rock in one piece.
Here is a good thread: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=207098

@Superjunk - Ahh, so there is a reason to for those worlds, that's what I wanted confirmation of. Did you find the there are certain geography location? Some planets have deep valleys (so deep, I spent 3 minutes falling to my death as I helpless slid and rolled), or different colored terrains or are craters. Do you find any pattern in that regard? Because thus far (in the like 5 planets I landed), I just find the first spot to land or have any blue signal and then go from there.
However, it helps if you know the X/3/2/1 rule for elements of planets. Illl try and grab a link later.

That's awesome. Many thanks!
Could you elaborate on the X/3/2/1 rule? I don't think I had read about it yet. Thanks in advance :)
Sorry for delay, been a busy day.
Basically every planet has an allocation of different rarity of materials. Very Common, Common, Rare, and Very Rare.
On any planet you will find most (or all) Very Common Materials. 3 Common Materials. 2 Rare Materials.1 Very Rare Material.
Its useful to know when prospecting to see what is available on a planet since once you have found 1 very rare you know there won't be another.
If you check the links i posted earlier there are lists there of which minerals have which level of rarity. The wiki also has info on this.
AFAIK every Premium level Synthesis requires at least one, sometimes two, Very Rare materials.
Very rare materails can be very difficult to find. Sometimes you will get lucky and find them quickly, other times, you can spend hours and not find one.
Best chances or by looking for mettalic meterorites. Often they come in clumps of 3 as well, so that's useful.
Mettalic Meteorites are the ones on the wave scanners that have two bands on the bottom, rows 1 and 3 if you think of them like rows.
by reading i just begin to wonder if players may ever trade materials to one another. thanks for the 'Horizons Prospector Log-Materials' spreadsheet
Looking for Vanadium looks like this:
- every material can be found on any planet. Ice planets have a lot of vanadium as well :)
- V is metal so it comes from mesoderite and metallic rocks. Both sound at higher pitch and have 1 and 1-4 configuration in lowest band on scanner (visual scanner info is always better then sound info)
- mesoderites are more likely to be on the outer edge of big craters
- V is uncommon material, there are 3 RNG uncommons on each and every planet (stays consistent with time so you may return back if you are nearby, not worth flying more then 20ly)
So you land near crater, dismiss your ship. You do circle with SRV to pinpoint any metal rock nearby, if no there just drive random direction until you see right pattern. You find some mats, you get track of uncommons, once you found 3 and no V, move to closest planet. Repeat until you find V. It should take 20mins top to get planet with it. Then you drive as long as you collect all you need there.
Extremely good source of materials are barnacles (there is like 80+ in one place). So if you want to stockpile 50+ I would consider visit pleiades and gather your reserves there. For 5-10pcs the trip is not worth and better to find on normal planets.
Might be a little late for me to go to Pleides now as I'm on a beeline to catch up to distant worlds (gonna be some marathon). Hopefulyl I catch up to them before the end, I will just need the boost for the very end part to get to Beagle point as my Asp's range at the moment simply isn't enough to traverse the space. Though I have literally no rare materials far as I'm aware of right now, maybe one or two. I still have so little minerals left that I get overly excited to even reach a signal source.
Good to know that around craters is good. At the moment (last 2 nights anyway), I only explore at the end of the night before going to sleep. One downside of the SRV is that it gives me epic motion sickness sometimes, so this is why I really wanted to know if there is specific strategies to find certain materials as I can't drive more than 30 min without going dizzy. Granted, my obsession with flying off canyons or hills and unintentially doing doughnuts as well as general incompetent with driving does not help my cause.
Cool. What's your jump range?
You don't need much jumponium if you have a decent range, if large enough, you won't need it at all (about 34LY range is required for this IIRC to make the crossing of the Abyss at the direct point... but you can go around the long way and get by with less).
If you are looking for jumponium you might want to consult this spreadsheet and stop off at some of the worlds listed en-route.
However, there is plans for a longer stay at the last WP before we cross into the final stage to gather more jumponium for those who need to.

I think the minimum was 33, I believe IIRC from ship builder I can get to at low fuel, just don't want to risk it. Either way, basic would at least get me to 36 LY, which is fine.
I might only get it when I'm nearer to the group, as I am aiming to go around 5 or 6k LY per night if not more at the moment to catch up. And just before I go to bed I will have a look.
Right. If you go flat out, don't stop to scan stuff (i know, its hard... oohhh, earthlike, must stop and scan that!) then you can cover roughly 2000LY/hour.
What you flying? Do you have a good fuel scoop? Do you have extra fuel tanks?
