How do I destroy collector limpet drones?
I'm mining, and I have too many collector limpet drones that are taking up space, and my cargo hold is now full. I try to Jettison (Abandon) extras, but my active limpets just fly out and pick them right back up...

Or any cargo? Permanently so that those silly limpet drones don't go back to collect it...

If you have prospector limpet controller as well as a collector limpet controller (and if you're into efficient mining, you really should) the simply fire excess limpets off as Prospectors.

If you must destroy your own collector limpets, then you could try:

- Jettisoning cargo then running away and hiding behind an asteroid.
- Jettisoning cargo near a jagged asteroid that's rotating very fast.
- Jettisoning cargo, then quickly turning around and bringing your primary weapons to bear on the limpets and/or the cargo they carry.
- SImply wait for the elimpets to die all by themselves. Then Jettison the unwanted cargo, and blow the jettisoned cargo up with your primary weapons. Now you can launch fresh limpets.

For cargo you can jettison it and thrust downwards. They will explode before collectors can pick them up.

I use Prospector Limpets along with my Collector Limpets because they not only tell you how much ore is in each asteroid, but they provide more efficient asteroid extraction AND tell you how much of the asteroid ore is left before being depleted. You only get about a third of the ore without a Prospector Limpet. Also, it's easy to burn through a whole cargo load of limpets just shooting them off to each asteroid to see what ore each has. When my hold gets full, I manage my refinery and wait until the asteroid I'm mining is depleted. Then I start getting picky about which next asteroid to mine by using several Prospectors thereby gaining more cargo space.

Disable your collector controller (in power management) and all existing collectors will die). Power it up again, and off you go.

Now that's smart :) Thanks!

Nice! Hadn't thought of that.

Neither did I. Someone else told me when I asked the same question ;)

Have you even been so bored that you started firing at your own collector limpet? To relieve the maddening boredum of mining?
