But honestly all you need to do is swap the best cargo slot you have and make it an A rated shield gen, A rate your Power distro and at least C rate your Powerplant and you should be good to go with Pulse(Large,Medium) and Beams(Small) for the conda to be an effective res site grinder for rank.
But now if you want to bounty hunt as in interdiction missions you need a fast strong ship like the FDL, or FAS. They tend to do a really nice job. I prefer the FAS as it has a slightly higher jump range for traveling to expansion zones where I farm merits. But the FDL is more powerful in every way. Better weapons cap 4M points and 1H point for a 4a PA and 4 pulse or 1 L beam and 4 Multi cannon work wonders in any situation...
One note on either ship though BI-Weave shields and a Fuel scoop are a must on either the FAS or FDL due to their limited jump range and fuel tanks. Bi weave shields reduce power consumption allowing you to use more for weapons.
I went from Sidewinder to Eagle to Viper (MkIII) to Diamondback Scout, and will probably pick up a Viper MkIV next, followed by a Vulture, then a Federal Assault Ship, and then Lord only knows from there. Many skip the Eagle because it's very much an interceptor-class fighter - high manoeuvrability, but very low armour - but personally I love the thrill of dogfighting and I spent many enjoyable hours in the cockpit of my Eagle.
Of course there are some 'core' ships that you just can't miss, like the Viper or the Vulture, but personally I would recommend you check out the ships on the wiki, mess with them in Coriolis or EDShipyard, etc. and familiarise yourself with not only whether the ship is recommended for combat but other aspects as well, such as what role the ship is meant to play in combat.
I know the whole 'do whatever works for you' thing isn't really a useful answer, but everyone's flying style is different.
Viper mk3 was my favorite combat ship for RES hunting for the longest time. Near the end this is how I was running my Viper build.

Then I discovered the DBS (Diamond Back Scout) It has better agility than the Viper mk 3, better power plant so it can handle more power draw than the viper by quite a bit.
These 2 are a great place to start. YOu should also try playing around with the Coriolis ship builder I linked you. It will give you a better idea of what you want to do.
Edit: Forgot the build for the DBS. http://coriolis.io/outfit/diamondback/24A4A4A2D3A2D4C1g272424000304044029--.Iw1-kA==.Aw1-kA==
