Unable to play with friends [RESOLVED]
My friend and I came back to elite after almost 4 years off and we cannot get a group session going at all, we tried him making a group, me, Open Play, adding a removing friends multiple times, nothing will work, we can not get into a game together. Is this a thing now? It was never an issue in the past.

I have Odyssey and he has Horizons, is that a limitation? If so that is STUPID AS HELL.

Yes, it is. And it is not stupid. Horizons has an age limitation of 7+, Odyssey is 16+. They can't let Horizons players to see Odyssey content.

This game is literally directly opposed to you being able to play with friends. It was that way before Odyssey as well they just made it worse with that trash release.

How would a Horizons player see content they don't own? I just want to fly with my mate and do bounties, I am not asking for him to be able to run around shooting people on foot without buying the content. If we can't group because of that, it is in fact, "stupid design".

It makes zero sense logistically, that means Horizons players would need their own Horizons only server to play on where they are unable to interact with anyone who owns Odyssey, again, such a stupid concept that I can;t imagine even the worst of companies implementing it. Secondly all they have to do is be like, "SORRY YOU CAN'T ACCESS THIS MISSION (PURCHASE ODYSSEY)" and it's solved lol.

Age restriction is such a lame excuse.

You should be able to select Horizons in the launcher then both of you can play Horizons.

Regular Horizons or Legacy Horizons? Honestly I didn't even know that was an option. Thank you!

Regular Horizons is the Live version. It has the current state of the galaxy. That is probably what you want.

Legacy is a snapshot of the galaxy prior to the Live/Legacy split and is a copy of your CMDR. Progress does not transfer between Live and Legacy.

Also, Live has the same planet tech and graphics as Odyssey. It is basically Odyssey without the on foot options or being able to land on tenuous atmosphere planets.

awesome thanks for the succinct answer. We gave up trying to figure it out this evening but next time we can play together at least we should be able to make it work now!

By landing with you on the same planet and seeing you killing NPCs on the surface. It can't be allowed for a PEGI7 game that Horizons is.

Which brings us to the question, how you expect your friend to join your Odyssey session if he doesn't own the Odyssey content?

I've gamed with friends on twitch streams every weekend since Odyssey launched. No problem getting together.

It's more fun in Odyssey because you can travel on each others ships, disembark to do ground missions, meet on fleet carriers or in stations, and share every ground mission you can find.

I mean if your ISP doesn't support p2p, you are going to have a difficult time fer sure. =)

In any case, Odyssey introduced a new network protocol and it's more stable than ever.

Understatement. Odyssey is amazing now that Frontier fix the majority of problems. Very well put. Runs very smooth now.
