back after 2.5 years
It's been so long I am having to start from scratch, but good to see my 105 million CR remain. Several links to supporting sites for the game are now dead, but that's how it goes. The heavyweights are still around (INARA, EDSM, etc.)

When I left, Odyssey had just come out and people were not happy with it. I am still running Horizons but I see O is now $11. I wasn't interested in the lounges in the starports, etc as I am primarily an explorer. Any improvements in planet graphics would be great. Would you advise me to go with O now?

We've had 17 major updates with another on the way. I wouldn't play without it, but there are some who wanted other features Ody didn't bring to ED.

Yes. Even if it was just for the views at sunset, on a planet with a weird atmosphere...

While you're enjoying the views... You can now scan plants... It's better than it sounds, mainly because it brings exploration credits to a level on par with other methods of earning money in game.

You need to scan 3 samples of each variety you find on a planet.

If you're the first to scan it/hand the data in, you get a 5x bonus.

When you get first foot fall on a planet (so you know nobody else has been there before, or scanned any of the samples), and find your first group of Stratum Tectonicas: There's 100 mil. If you're lucky, you might find a system with 3 or 4 planets that all have the same high paying samples to find (my best so far was 3 planets in a previously undiscovered system with Stratum Tectonicas, all moons around a single gas giant).

funky, the bonus is just 5x, but still huge.

you should know, horizons is today using same graphics as odyssey. Perhaps it was difficult to maintain both paralelly so they merged odyssey graphics into horizons. So if you are not interested in odyssey specific content, there is really no reason purhasing odyssey. You can't land on planets with atmosphere which come with odyssey, but this is not an issue, landing on those planets only makes sense if you do odyssey stuff, like foot combat, exobiology etc...

And enjoying the sunsets while exploring. Otherwise you're stuck with barren rocks.

For $11 Odyssey is an absolute steal.

And kept Horizons Legacy in parallel. ;)

They gave all Horizons players the Odyssey game client, but disabled the disembark button.

They removed the 'advanced planetary approach suite' from the game so you can't get near landable atmo planets. (All the thargoid Spire sites are on atmo worlds btw. So are all the exobio plants you can scan for billions of credits.)

Plus if you find an Odyssey settlement on an airless planet, there are no people and you can't get docking permission.

Three simple filters, and no future maintenance needed.

Corrected it

For some reason I had it in my head, that the base payout on the high earners was around 10 mil instead of 20... :riddle:

There was a bug for a while where the payout was more than indicated (10x I think?) They brought it back to the correct amount soon after (5x)

Don't bother, even at sale price it's not worth it. You get zero meaningful content. Honestly, I'm debating whether or not I should come back and mine enough just to keep my Carrier. I stopped on Nov. 22, 2022 and I just don't feel like playing it. Maybe the combat will bring me in for a week or two before I get bored of it again. I worked hard for that Carrier though, it's my only kind of "need" to go back.

It sounds like almost all think O is the way to go. Is anything lost from H? I assume everything I have in the game will be retained if I go to O, same ships, accomplishments, etc. I did notice the graphic improvement in H so I'd guess I would not see any performance penalty going to O.

BTW - any changes to mining?

Odyssey just adds new features to the game. It doesn't take away anything.

Your older Horizons (now Horizions Legacy) progression has been copied over to a new Horizons Live / Odyssey save in November 2021, if I remember the year right. From that date the progression made with playing Horizons Legacy is kept separately from Horizons Live or Odyssey.

Horizons Live and Odyssey share the same progression save. You will not lose anything by going from one to another one.

There's decent money (and materials) to be made from Spire missions.

When you start Odyssey, you'll go through the tutorial. While the tutorial is active, you won't have access to anything from your Horizons save.

Once you complete the tutorial, you'll have it all back. So don't panic
