Fuel consumption while landed?
Brand new player, confused by something and can't find any info online.

I've just completed my first non-tutorial travel to a new system and landing at a station there ("A New Opportunity" mission). After landing I noticed my fuel consumption was not zero, but still showing what it was in flight. I sent my ship to the hangar and this didn't change. I logged out and back in, and then it finally showed 0.

Is there something I'm supposed to do to cut fuel consumption after landing?

In my experience a ships reactor is always running and powering things like life support as well as other active modules such as shields even when the ship has landed. You can reduce fuel consumption by turning off modules you don't currently need. For example, when I am done fuel scooping I turn off my fuel scoop and the energy saved reduces fuel consumption. You can see/prioritize and activate/deactivate your ships modules on the right-side panel of your cockpit. The default key to open that panel is "4". Note that the panel has several tabs so it does more than just take you to your installed modules.

As a side note: when you prioritize your modules the larger the number the lower the priority. For example, if you deploy weapons (known as "hardpoints") you'll have higher power draw because the weapons are now being powered. If this additional power draw takes your reactor over its power output it will temporarily shut down the highest priority number (therefore lowest priority) modules until you stow your hardpoints. Say if I had my cargo bay door set to priority 5, my repair limpet set to 4 and my guns to 3, if I go over my reactor's limit by deploying hardpoints, first my cargo door shuts down, if I am still over limit, then my repair limpet controller shuts off, etc.

Did that answer your question/concern?

Merry Christmas! :)

Thanks, I was aware of the module priorities/shutoff menu but haven't toyed around with it yet. This is more just a concern that my ship is burning fuel even while I'm at an outpost, inside the hangar (it continues to show fuel usage as something like .44/hr for example, instead of zero). I think it's a visual bug though, because if I refuel immediately and then spend a bunch of time at that outpost, my fuel stays at 100% even though it claims I'm using it.

When you're docked at a port you are hooked up to their power supply so it is constantly replenishing your energy. The display may show that you are still using the power for all of your active systems, but that power is being taken from the station's infinite supply. If you manage to land with one of your engine/system/weapon capacitors depleted you'll see it charge up at a far greater rate than if the power is coming from your own reactor.

They just don't refill your stored fuel for free(but with the fuel prices in this game it might as well be free).

there is a auto start up of your ship many players have it turned on by defult.
you can however turn it off so you need to start up the ship from dark everytime if you would like more realism

After you've played some more, you will notice more of those visual or math bugs. One of these appears when you land (rough) while your throttle is not zero (it is possible to 'catch' a landing spot while flying low and slow). At that time, game will show non-zero throttle and speed when you've already landed and are stationary. So whatever thing numbers are showing while docked at a station, I think you don't use fuel at all. You do, when you land rough, though. You can confirm this on your own by leaving your ship docked for half an hour and observing state of your upper fuel gauge (the thin, one-pixel line that's right below the usage rate you mention)
