many people use to jump from one systems to another and end up flying so close to the star they would blow up from the heat this make sense. many of us did it back in the day.
But too many people complained about it so now i can fly in a E rated side winder no shields and no blow up. " many of the community wanted that aspect removed so they did
also the super cruz assit was never in game another group of people hated doing the circle of shame.
also the docking computer another add by the devs because people could not land there ship.
then the auto launch added and the list goes on.
I get the feeling your rant could also be because the community did not like that sort of thing so the devs eliminated it
even the scanning of the system use to be different but again changed for the better so they said.
it would of been great to see how Elite turned out if no one complained about anything.
My idea and theory is that each ship comes with a chemical explosive payload that is only activated in self-destruct and the timer is pretty much how long it takes the payload mixing to create the explosion reaction. It's kinda like how despite how small C4 is, it can make a massive explosion.
WWII pilots flying over enemy territory had an incendiary fitted that would destroy the aircraft if it slammed into the ground. Makes that kind of service sound even more dangerous than it already was.
Quite a few Navy ships used to have blocks of magnesium bolted into their hulls, to help prevent rust... You can probably guess how that went when they got hit...
Besides, I don't know what kind of power plants they run on, but if it's fusion they would more than likely implode violently rather than explode, as far as I know. I could be wrong, and given the insane amount of power that would be required to accelerate to FTL speeds or open a wormhole, it's very likely that they're running on some exotic matter.
