End the thargoid war now !
Its time for Frontier to can this pointless Thargoid war , the whole point of Elite was the variety of play and allowing you to play your game but now Frontier is forcing us all into Thargoid combat/conflict which isn't that popular with the player base and is suffering from war weariness . Closing the PMF option seems to be a symptom of Frontier's new thinking which is Thargoid, Thargoid, Thargoid . Eight incursions was totally excessive and they are having to constantly "re-balance" the war as players loose interest in this "phony" war. Its time to let us all get back to playing our game not Frontiers limited vision. A lot of my friends feel strongly this is Froniters way of killing of Elite to save them keeping the servers open . What do you think are you invested in this phoney story Line ? Don't get me wrong I love this game with more than 12,000 hours in game I just want to have a choice and not pushed into one game loop again and again

It's not how much, it's the fact that if they were planning on closing the game down they wouldn't be selling ARX at all.

If you're closing down a game in an orderly fashion, first you close the cosmetics store so people can't buy in-game currency they won't be able to use. Then you announce the server closure.

You don't spend a lot of money developing updates 15, 16 and beyond *just* to go HAHAHA THE THARGOIDS WON GAME OVER PATHETIC HUMANS ps thanks for spending all your money on cosmetics.

That's completely and utterly ludicrous, which is why I call it out every time I see it.

Note that my point relates to an orderly closing-down of an online game. If something closes down due to external factors, such as bankruptcy, that's a completely different situation.

Companies go under all the time. They are sometimes selling things after the death knell.

No company can stay alive when their stock keeps dropping all the time.

We're not talking about a bankruptcy here, we're talking about the completely bonkers idea that a company would spend a ton of money developing a new feature JUST so they could pull the rug out.

Frontier is a public company, with responsibilities to their shareholders. It's not two guys in their mom's basement stuffing handfuls of potato chips into their mouths while cackling maniacally about the totally awesome trick they're going to pull on the player base.

Oh yeah I agree with you on the whole tinfoil hat thing of running it in the ground! LOL

Well I would not go that far, I think it has years left but it is going to need a significant upgrade sooner or later if it plans to survive long term The graphics were a bit dated even at release but the space sim part made up for it.

He changed his role. He and his family still own almost 50% of the entire company.

^^^ It's FDev. If you think it's THAT ridiculous you may want to rethink your statement. They can go plaid anytime they want to.

As for the Thargoid war, if AXI players are getting burnt out from their FAVORITE OBJECTIVE in-game that speaks volumes as to the supposed continuation of the Thargoid War.

In terms of 'forced' interaction with the Thargoid War no, there is no gun being put to anyone's head. I think the point OP is trying to make is it's clear that FDev's time (and a majority of their resources) are being put into the war thereby creating a sense of 'forced interaction' in playing the only part of Elite: Dangerous that's had any major content updates lately. Yes, we COULD return to just doing exo, explo, bounty hunting, running BGS missions (for existing factions since no new ones are going to be added ((stupid af decision FDev)) etc but with no new content in those categories it FEELS like FDev are hamstringing their game for the sake of the damn Thargoid War.

You missed the second half of the sentence after 'suspending new player factions' which was 'for the time being'

Bruce said it right there on the livestream.

They need to suspend adding new PMFs to the game for *reasons*. Reasons are up for debate, but could include a new faction being inserted into the game (pro-thargoid cultists?), maybe permanent thargoid presence in the bubble, or... who knows, maybe the Guardians show up with space stations, bases, etc?

Either way, PMFs are on hold while all this develops, since they'll need to pick systems to change things around, and they can't do that with their left hand if the right hand is adding new player factions into the same systems.

And afterwards, when the dust settles, applications for new PMFs will presumably be taken again.

I'm reasonably confident that most of the relevant data could be ported over if they were to build a new engine (Cobra Mk II, perhaps?) with that intention in mind. If so, then it can potentially go on for quite a while yet.

There have been more than a few other online games that have gotten facelifts over the years, so there's no reason that Elite won't be among them. Besides, Odyssey already did touch up the graphics a bit. I feel like it's butting up against the limits of the engine at this point, mind you.

Given that they've used their proprietary engine for several of their games, it's not a stretch of the imagination that they would eventually look into upgrading it. Only Frontier knows what they're going to do. I'm just speculating here to make the point that it could go on for as long as they want it to or make a profit from it.

Lol what a treasure trove of bad speculative takes from some ppl. XD

FACT is only fdev has the data to support what ever is what, not some forum-posters who have no interest in adding to the game whatsoever, only harping and denigrating the devs.
Honestly, "i like the game so i'm gonna list all these things i find wrong and everything is DOOOOOOOOOOM" is getting super old. :D

Wanting and even suggesting improvements is a whole other ballpark tho.
Koopa Mar 27, 2023 @ 3:52pm
I don't hate the whole thargoid thing but it feels like U15 is going to be very underwhelming (much like every post-odyssey update before it) they hype it up, its underwhelming, doesn't deliver very much.

The other thing is the "new rework" which got pushed back another year, I don't know if elite is dead or not but the development team has either gotten so small they can't do anything productive, or they've stopped caring completely and given it the TF2 treatment of minor bug fixes every once in a while
2drunk2win Mar 27, 2023 @ 5:52pm
Yeah this game is dead to me. It's a real shame, I think I've logged in a few times since this war has started and I'm just not interested. Don't feel like grinding out however many more hours to make a competent fighting ship. Oddysey was a bit underwhelming. I think I'm done with this game. The devs vision is not the right one and it's obvious that is not going to change.
Stelar Seven Mar 27, 2023 @ 9:03pm
Yeah they are actively making content for a game to kill it. Seriously, that is an idea that someone believes maps to facts in reality?

As many had pointed out the tharg war is optional. You don't want to play? Don't.

It's not like someone is in your house with a gun to your head demanding you kill another Orthrus.

You're listening to the wrong people or watching the wrong youtube videos. You can build and arm an AX ship without engineering*. U14 brought Enhanced AX multicannon (gimballed, turreted or fixed) which you can buy with credits.

FDev did this because of people complaining about 'teh grind' and yet people still complain about 'teh grind' even when it's been removed. Priceless.

*I'm not denying adding a grade or two of engineering to thrusters and/or hull won't help, but it's not necessary. Also grade 1 and 2 use mats you almost can't avoid tripping over in normal gameplay.
