Not too surprising. The metallic meteorites won't be persistent anyway, and the game has had a few updates since then. There's probably still some good spots, might take a bit of searching to find them though.
Anyway, Oddy and what it did to raw materials is far more fantastic than people realize.
Location does matter, and it added old fashioned prospecting techniques to the game.
If you want an example land somewhere near there and look for Selenium.

I still like the good 'ol SRV.
I can fill 0-150 in ~6M with the SRV vs 2 and a half minutes with limpets.
