There might be some glitches that can successfully plot a route farther than 20kLy, even if showing that error. I made a 23kLy plotting once.
you can not fly from the bubble to colonia which is 22Ly

There's also a more advanced variant that accounts for refuels, but I like to resolve that by plotting no fewer than two neutrons ahead (usually it's actually three) via spansh, which usually gives me at least one or two systems of main sequence stars (O B A F G K M) for me to scoop.
Welcome to the Neutron Highway, Commander. We zippin'.
When I went to Sag A*, that was before we could plot more than 1000LY anyway. When I went to Colonia... I got there the lazy way and took a ride on a friends fleet carrier... I didn't return with the crew though, and spent the better part of a year slowly wandering back with economical route plotting... The same friend picked me up about 10KLY from Sol on his way back from the 2nd trip to Colonia... So I've never needed to try any further
got space maddness on the way back could not play a game or boot up the PC for 6 months
