What happened to orbit lines?
I took a two year hiatus from ED a couple years ago, well, before Odyssey dropped, whenever that was. I do not have Odyssey, but I'm playing in new Horizons.

My orbital lines look terrible, and I don't remember them looking this badly previously. I can't find any setting that makes any difference to them, but they look choppy and broken, as in - not solid. They look like dashes instead of lines, unless my ship is canted X degrees one way or another from the lines. If they're exactly horizontal or vertical, then they just break.

Granted, I don't read patch notes a whole lot, so maybe the answer is buried in there in terms of graphical updates or something, but it's really immersion killing for me, like I have a broken HUD or something.

I have tried all graphical settings, but nothing seems to fix them. Anyone have any ideas?
I'm running an AMD card, so anything that pertains strictly to Nvidia cards is a moot point.

If you are on AMD they are terrible. You cannot fix them.

Ugh, I was afraid that this would be the answer.

Alright, thanks.

I'm sorry. I wish I had better news. I have them on b/c without them fuel scooping becomes a bit difficult.

You can tap the = key to toggle them on and off (I believe that's the default).

Turn them off as you fly away from the main star, maybe?

Really? Do you play with Mouse and Keyboard? Just curious what is difficult about it. I use a joystick and I never use orbit lines... in fact I find them annoying.

When I fuel scoop, I just fly towards the star at a shallow angle and throttle down when it turns red. I might not be getting as close as I could, but the extra time doesn't matter to me as I'm usually using my D-Scanner while I refuel.

I'm not him, but I prefer orbit lines. Came back after a couple years finding myself way out in the black and wanting to get to the bubble quickly so I could play the game I wanted to play and see some new stuff. With orbit lines, it's easy to line up the swing around the various stars quickly. An extra minute of scooping could turn into 16+ hours when you have 1000+ jumps to go.

Not the same problem as op, but choppy lines also show up in vr and I can't do it because of that. Spent so much time looking nice and crisp and I can't stand the zig zagging.

Yeah, that's the default to turn them off. I've played since the game dropped in 2014, and I don't know why, but I always liked them on. I did try without them, and it was fine I suppose, I just sort of like them. It provides a nice visual representation of scale for me.

It'll be fine, I'll just have to get used to them - or put my old 1080 back in.

Edit: Ok, I sort of fixed it, or at least minimized it. I found a thread from last year regarding the issue on the official forums. One poster had luck with going from fullscreen to borderless, so I tried it, and it certainly helped. It hasn't totally resolved it, but it severely minimized the issue. It's playable, so I'll make do. It's fine.

Thank you for the replies.

Another option, if your PC can handle it, is to set Supersampling to 1.25x

It can, and that did help some. As a matter of fact, I went all the way to 2.0x and that did help. I think that this is going to be just about the best I can get them.

Something to do with a change in the 6000+ series of gpus. I was on R480 before, and the lines were fine, then upgraded to 6700xt and lines were ****

That's probably going to cripple your framerate if you come into Odyssey.

Wasn't too bad while in space...but wow did it break once I landed on a planet.

The link i posted fixes the orbit lines and some CMDRs have even reported better performance.

Yep, and I appreciate it too. I'll take a look at it in a sandbox VM machine. Coming from a digital forensic background, I'm not a fan of just downloading and running things like that willy nilly. I'm sure it's fine, I just have to be sure.
