Is odyssey worth to buy in 2023?

Hello, I definetly want to buy Elite Dangerous. I don't like NMS and Star Citizen. But I read a lot of negative comments about Odyssey. And I have one question. Don't take performance issues or terrain graphics or the lack of ship interior into account. From your perspective, do you experience a lot of bugs. With bugs I mean, mission items don't spawn, or you can't complete missions, Guardian sites don't give the tech and other things like that. Are there many of those things which are so annoying that you don't wanna play Odyssey anymore?
I know the devs are perhaps not the best, but the game definitely is in my opinion. Thank you very much for your help.

If you want a space sim with endless freedom...then ED + Od. Is your game!! I dont have any problems with bugs or performance (but its true in the past...the release was a desaster). But now i think the most gamer would say the performance is okay. But notice that Elite has a hard Difficult for beginners...especially with the controls. Use a HOTAS fot the best experience (i would never play the game without). It has a lot of grind and its definitely not a game for everyone...but if you love space sims with writing your own story...try Elite (including Odyssey).

the grind in ED itself is not so grindy because there are so many choices how to go about playing. don't have odyssey yet because it was 20 bux on sale!

Im in the same boat. We started playing Elite with a friend like a 1,5 months ago, and we like it ( its a weird game for us we love certain parts, hate others). So we wanted to buy Odyssey to add to the experience, but its quite expensive for a dlc. After reading some reviews, we decided to wait for a significant sale and then buy it.

I bought the former base game plus the former Horizons DLC (now combined to form the new base game) years after the original game was released, and quite a while after Horizons was released. I bought Odyssey more than a year after Odyssey was released. Personally, I have experienced precisely one incident when the game crashed. On one or two occasions the galaxy map seemed to react strangely. Sometimes the launcher doesn´t remember me, and I have to log in to the devs website and then start the game again. 99% of the time the game runs fine for me, and what I experienced wasn´t gamebreaking.

I bought Oddyssey on pre-sale. It was buggy, but fun, in the beta.

Since then it's got more fun and less buggy such that bugs are rare, almost never outside of occasional instancing issues.

I can't play ED without Oddy.

Yes. Two more major updates this year, and we just got one last November.

No it is not. Same boring missions with no pay out for the time sink. Still weird game play also.

The in space part of the game works well. The on-foot missions are often broken. Just went out to a Guardian Structure did not appear to get the blueprint. (Not sure this is a EDO only problem.)

The on-foot combat is more frustrating than fun. I put Flechette Launchers on my ship most of the time to bypass the need for on foot combat. Trying to kill the dozen+ that even a threat level 2 impact site can spawn with G3 gear, and minimal cover on-foot is not much fun. Having the 'use health kit' and 'use energy cell' hot keys set is very much needed as the on-foot gui is a mess, and you run out of energy very quickly.

The on-foot spaces/structures are limited and mostly copy paste.

The on-foot engineering is far more of a pain than ship engineering,ship engineers can not modify on-foot gear, and the materials are totally different.

On-foot Exo-Biology is tedious. If only they let us store say 3 different types of bio samples at once it would be much more enjoyable.

On-Foot and Ship based stuff is not very well integrated.

The on-foot content is mostly garbage, but the narrative stuff (thargoid War, Galnet etc) and continued development is nice. When EDO is on sale for say $20 it is a reasonable value.

The space stuff is still fun. Encountering Thargoid Interceptor in VR is a jaw dropping experience, but not tied to EDO.
