1 Scan the Planet with DSS
2 Navigate (Q & E) to Bakteria
3 Fly to the most dark bue greenish spots
4 Hoover at ca 30 meter above surface and slow speed and watch for
Finding Bakteria in SRV is very, very hard to find some.

You can go a lot higher for bacteria, thus overlooking more territory.
Only thing I am repeatedly having trouble with is finding them on icy bodies. Oh yes, and I don´t even try to find them on badly lit planets circeling Y Stars, as these are almost pitch black dark even on the sunny side.
Yeah, I find this to be the best way as well. Unless I happen to spot a bunch of bacteria patches while hunting for another plant in my SRV, I find it faster to just get back in my ship and do what kraul said. Just cruise around until I see another patch, land my ship and get out to scan then take off again and look for another.
What I do is tilt my ship down slightly so my cockpit is angled towards the ground and use my thrusters to move instead of throttling up my engines. Basically with the angle I use, I can thrust upwards to move forward and slightly away from the ground and just compensate by adding a push of forward thrust when I start getting too high. I also keep my landing gear deployed, both to slow me down a bit so I don't zoom too fast and miss stuff (or crash into the ground if I forget I'm on a higher G world) and can just quickly land when I spot a bacteria patch.
Yes, finding bacteria is a challenge to your patience.
Leaving aside the whole thing with the surface scanner, I do it like this.
Drive around with the SRV and take off every now and then and see if I see a darker spot.
Of course, it's easier with VR glasses or a head/eye tracker.
A scanner can also help. It shows that there is a colony of bacteria in front of you.
Equipped like this, it's child's play and has made me several millions. Especially when you fly 15,000 years into nothing and find bacteria first and submit their DNA profile first.

here is screen shot my ships composition scanner has spotted bacteria, it is almost impossible to see it with eye but if you land and look at ground there is some bacteria.
so if possible try to find different colored ground if it seems that it is hard to spot.
