Can anyone explain....
I am working on farming materials. Found an older guide that listed some planets to go to for G4 raw materials. In the guide they suggest this "use your Detailed Surface Scanner (DSS) on it. When this is done, select Crystal Shards and look for dark blue areas." I cant figure out how to "select Crystal Shards". I cant seem to find any menu where I can select it. Anyone know what this is referring to and how I do it?

You can't if you play on a new game engine (Live). Exploration gameplay has changed and there are no exact locations of bio/geo sites. Your guide is outdated.

If you play on the old, Legacy, game engine, then select available geo locations on your left screen, third tab (contacts).

I know it is not what you asked but something to start with.

Here is a link from the frontier forums that has been updated with coordinates (Thanks to those commanders who did the work) for all except Selenium. I have used it recently, last week, and know the locations work.

With the DSS you will not find "Crystal Shards" they will be found at "Biological" or "Biological signals" I don't remember which. Crystal Shards will fall under the Biological category. When I did a raw material run last week I no longer had a location in the left panel to select. I tried both Odyssey and Horizons same results. I think it has to do with one of the last updates.

I was afraid of the guide I was looking at being outdated. The link you provided, the guide Im following has the same exact planets to visit, just didnt provide coords. I made it to HIP 36601 last night, my furthest trip so far. Thank you!

The last two are not accurate.

When you are in the DSS view you can select shards or crystal or possibly crystal shards, once the planet is fully scanned.

That will give you a heat map of where the shards occur most frequently.

You then fly down and harvest. It sounds like your guide is recent.

The default keys for the selection are q and e I believe.

Thanks for the info. Ill have to check that out on the next planet in the list. With the coords I was able to find the Polonium site and have almost half an inventory of it now. Took a min to understand the coords, but I figured it out.

The anaconda crash site in Koli Discii (c6a) is also worth a look.

It has flat terrain, three cargo racks which dispense (from memory) G5, G4 and G3 materials in threes (x2) from each rack. Zirconium, Tungsten, Ruthenium, etc.. There's also canisters of gold, palladium, bertrandite to pick up. It's 90,000ls from the main star, so as long as you don't mind the trip (a fleet carrier can fly to C6a directly), then it's well worth the visit.

Visit a materials trader to trade up/down for what you need.

There's an option in controls to bind the selector to a key, no need to go through the panels. Just hit next signal or whatever it's called. I've got it bound to my firegroups selector.

So I can see how I can filter for Crystal Shards as suggested. But Im not sure how to understand what Im seeing. The planet looks the same no matter what filter I set. Am I missing something? This is what I see

I think I figured it out. I finally noticed the subtle change in the blue getting a little darker.

That's the ticket, take your ship down to one of the darker areas and you should start seeing crystals.

Fly low and slow and or just hop out in your srv and collect to your heart's content.
