Edit: 30 jumps, eek.
The stations in the "Pilots Federations District" have a very limited selection of ship weapons.
Most of those weapons are fixed, and fixed weapons are very hard to use for new players.
Also the planets and moons in the starter zone haven't much Odyssey content.
Easy missions like delivering parcels or salvaging stuff from crashed ships are not present in the mission boards of the old starter district, only sabotage and theft missions to settlements outside the starter district.
So even before Odyssey the starter zone was bad because players can't get the easy to use gimballed weapons for their ships, and after Odyssey most of the new content isn't there.
Even in the system designated for combat are only space conflict zones aviable and no ground conflict zones for Frontline Solutions.
The starport is under Anarchy control, and you can sell there all kind of stolen stuff, buy e-breaches and even clear bounties at an interstellar factor.
Nevermind... That was a total brainfart...
My alt had already been locked out of the newbie area for a couple of months when I bought Ody on that account... So it can't be what happened...
Some new players start with Horizons, do the ship tutorial, then log into Odyssey.
If someone really needs to call an alternate scenario a bug, then of course, it's a bug. To me, it was a surprise but I don't feel as if I've missed out on something, because some nice people on here said there aren't any newbie-specific missions.
I'm old, and my brain is like Swiss Cheese (see my edit on the previous post).
